City of Castroville is Hiring a Permitting Assistant Near Castroville, TX

JOB SUMMARY: The overall purpose and general responsibilities of the job.

Provides administrative and clerical support to the Community Development Departmentintakes and processes building permit applications, maintains databases to track information on permits, plan reviewsand building inspections; prepares reports, correspondence, and other documentation; and performs other work-related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSThe fundamental duties and tasks that define the job.

  1. Processes permit applications for residentialcommercial, and other miscellaneous construction activities by receivingreviewing, and issuing permits and entering, storing, and retrieving permit information.
  2. Processes development applications, forwards on to director for review and entersstores, and retrieves applications and staff comments.
  3. Provides customer service to the public by responding to inquiries, online and in person, regardingbuilding and plan reviews, the permitting process and common code issuespreviewing plans for complete submittal; and assisting phone, email, and walk-up customers with directions.
  4. Responds to public information requests on behalf of the department.
  5. Performs administrative and clerical support functions including preparing, reviewing, and drafting documents; invoicing fees; using correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  6. Updates and maintains departmental files, records, and other official documents.
  7. Assists in preparation of reports to boards, commissions, Counciland other officials on planning matters.
  8. Performs customer service duties including answering and screening calls; receiving and assisting visitors;answer ring inquiries and/or complaints; and providing information regarding departmental operations, services programs, projects, and policies.
  9. May attend evening meetings.
  10. Performs related duties as assigned.

JOB DIMENSIONS

CONTACTS: Nature of contacts, external relationships, and internal relationships.

Provides general and technical information regarding community development servicesreports; and occasionally deals with irate individuals.

Internal Contacts: Constant contact with departmental personnel.

External Contacts: Frequent contact withcitizens, and other individualface to face and over the telephone to provide information regarding operations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum requirements for formal education and job-related experience.

High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate and 2 years of permitting, administrative and/or clerical experience; or an equivalent combination of education and/or related experience.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES: Utilized in the performance of the essential functions of the job.

  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of proper English, spelling, grammar, and punctuation
  • Knowledge of record keeping principles and practices
  • Knowledge and skill in utilizing personal computer and associated software programs (Word, Excel, financial, purchasing, and time and attendance software)
  • Knowledge of and skill in basic bookkeeping and accounting principles
  • Knowledge of and skill in performing mathematical calculations
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with diverse individuals, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and files

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical requirements associated with performance of the Essential Job Functions.

Physical requirements include carrying/lifting 10 lbs. and occasionally pushing/pulling up to 20 lbs.; visual acuity, speech, and hearing; hand eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate telephone, personal computer, basic office equipment; subject to carrying, lifting, twisting, kneeling, standing, and reaching to perform essential job functions.
