City of Bedford is Hiring a Public Works Utility Maintenance Supervisor Near Bedford, TX

SUMMARY Under the direction of the Utility Superintendent, directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in maintaining, repairing, installing, and relocating of water distribution and wastewater collection facilities by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Directs activities of personnel who install, maintain, and repair water distribution and wastewater collection systems, and monitors the status of work in progress. Assists other divisions of the Public Works Department as needed, including emergency call back.
  1. Ensures work is completed to City specifications and standards.
  1. Assists in the development of maintenance and repair strategies throughout the water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  1. Assists with the regulatory reporting to Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, Environmental Protection Agency, and other governing entities.
  1. Consults with administrative and engineering personnel, contractors, and other outside utilities including the Trinity River Authority, to coordinate maintenance activities.
  1. Responsible for maintaining utility tools and equipment and ensuring the availability of equipment is in safe operating condition.
  1. Responsible for maintaining and keeping a secure and adequate inventory of utility parts and materials at Service Center.
  1. Creates, receives and reviews work orders through the work order system. Ensures that data is entered into the system to close requests in a timely manner.
  1. Responds to customer’s questions, complaints, and requests for service; meets with members of the community to assess issues and problems; identifies and recommends solutions. Confirms resolution is completed satisfactorily and in a timely manner.
  1. Responsible for required daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance reports.
  1. Follows and enforces City policies and enforces workers and job site safety regulations.
  1. Regular and timely attendance is required, as well as the ability to get along with others in a professional and cordial manner.
  1. May perform other assignments and handle special projects as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises employees in this particular area of responsibility. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma /GED; and five (5) years of progressive related experience including two (2) years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement.
  • Possession of a TCEQ Class C Water Distribution License.
  • Possession of a TCEQ Class II Wastewater Collection License. 
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Class C Groundwater Treatment Operator License within one year of hire.
  • Possession of a Work Zone Traffic Control certification

Preferred:

  • TCEQ Class B Water Distribution License.
  • TCEQ Class III Wastewater Collection License.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

SPECIALIZED KSA’S

Demonstrated knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel. Demonstrated knowledge of municipal water supply and distribution systems; wastewater collection systems; well production and ground water treatment; and their maintenance; and interpretation of engineering plans and drawings. Ability to operate the SCADA system, including the remote operation of facilities and generation of reports.
