City of Beavercreek is Hiring a Seasonal Fleet Technician Near Beavercreek, OH

GENERAL NATURE OF WORK: This position performs semi-skilled work in the Public Services Department and is responsible for performing various physical tasks, including assisting with the maintenance of vehicles. Duties are performed under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Public Service and/or Mechanic II.

EQUIPMENT AND JOB LOCATION: This position requires general knowledge of the maintenance and repair of vehicles and small engines. The primary work site is the Municipal Maintenance Facility and City-owned facilities and grounds within Beavercreek City limits.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all duties which may be found in all positions in this class.

  • Performs maintenance on small engines and equipment.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles.
  • Operates light equipment, such as mowers, chainsaws, weed eaters, etc.
  • Performs oil and filter services.
  • Repairs or sharpens blades and chains
  • Performs basic small engine repairs.
  • Maintains equipment for safe and efficient usage.
  • Cleans, organizes, and puts tools away.
  • Washes, vacuums, and cleans fleet vehicles.
  • Performs any and all other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Works with Assistant Superintendent or other personnel as assigned to track daily accomplishments and parts usage.
  • Assists with special event preparation and large projects.
  • Demonstrates regular and predicable attendance.

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Basic knowledge of the operations and maintenance of job-related vehicles, machinery, tools, and equipment.
  • General knowledge of the occupational hazards and corresponding safety precautions necessary for the safe performance of assigned duties.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with City officials, fellow employees, other City employees, and the general public.
  • Ability to perform physical functions, including ability to lift objects, such as equipment, furniture, supplies, and/or material shorts distances (weight up to 50 pounds).
  • Ability to climb, bend, balance, and traverse rough ground, and ability to perform these tasks under varied weathered conditions.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time.

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited County Technical Center program, recognized apprentice program, College, or University working towards a degree or certification in Automobile/Small Engine/Fleet Maintenance, or other related field.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must maintain a valid Ohio Driver’s License.
  • Must be in good physical condition, i.e., ability to pass all required physical exams and drug testing as required by the State of Ohio and/or the City of Beavercreek.
