POSITION TITLE: Unskilled Summer Laborer

SUPERVISOR: Street Foreman

LOCATION: Public Works Garage, 300 Park Drive

JOB SUMMARY: To supplement the department labor force during the summer months by assisting with various streets, storm drainage and sidewalk maintenance.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Clean pavement joints and cracks.
• Mix mortar for repair or rebuilding of storm sewer catch basins.
• Place small sections of broken asphalt or concrete pavement into truck.
• Assist with manual excavations.
• Manually place earth fill and seed along street curbs, sidewalks, concrete pavement replacement and in sink holes over storm drain pipelines.
• Assist with the installation of traffic control signs.
• Wash trucks and equipment.

MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Assist with the removal of fallen trees and brush from open waterways and drainage structures.
• Assist with the cleaning and repair of traffic cones barricades and work zone signs.
• Assist with routine housekeeping duties at the Public Works Garage.
• Assist with maintaining a neat and tidy maintenance yard.
• Assist with the installation of retaining walls and creek bank stabilization.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• Ability to understand, remember and follow simple task instructions and work safety rules.
• Ability to lift, pull, push or haul broken concrete, stone, lumber, loose aggregate materials, bag mixes, paint, liquid and bulk asphalt sealant, and hand held or walk-behind saws, blowers, chipping hammers, pavement millers and grinders on uneven ground in excavations.
• Ability to tolerate physical labor for extended time periods and in all weather conditions occurring during summer months.
• Work up to 40 hours a week.

EQUIPMENT/SYSTEMS USED TO PERFORM THE JOB:

Small hand and power tools.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

High School diploma or GED equivalency preferred.
Valid Missouri Drivers license preferred.
