The City of Avondale is currently seeking a Project Manager (CIP) in the Engineering Department. This is a full-time, FLSA-exempt position with benefits. This position is open continuously. Review of applications will be conducted on Monday, March 25, 2024, and weekly thereafter.
Performs project management of the City’s Capital Improvement Program projects that include new city facilities, civil infrastructure, and other projects as assigned. Monitors scope, budget, schedule, and quality of projects to ensure successful completion of projects in the Capital Improvement Program and conformance to City development and design standards. Manages complex and multi-disciplinary activities and projects working with various departments and staff. Assists with the project management of the current and long-range Capital Improvement Program.
Supports Capital Improvement Program (CIP) by reviewing and approving preliminary and final plans and reports for compliance with City’s project scope, budget, schedule, and quality as well as design and construction principles. Facilitates necessary land acquisitions, easements, abandonments, plats, and similar, and utility coordination through design and construction to complete projects.
Plans, coordinates, and manages capital projects and the work of outside consultants. Develops a CIP project’s scope, budget, schedule, and quality for design and construction, assists staff with the procurement of design and construction services. Coordinates with outside consultants to obtain the required agency approvals for construction and acceptance. Coordinates with various departments and City staff including Engineering, Development Services, Public Works, Parks and Recreation, Facilities, Police, Fire and Public Safety.
Implements department policies and guidelines, proposes updates and revisions as needed for department approval before implementation.
Provides customer service by responding to various concerns and complaints from residents and local business owners affected by CIP Projects, provides information or recommendations as needed and provides general information to city departments, design consultants, and contractors.
Performs project management and administration of contracts for CIP projects, which includes providing necessary information and documents to procurement staff to procure design consultants and contractors, recommending contract awards and issuing Notice to Proceeds, processing submittals, progress payments, and change orders. Successfully manages scope, budget, schedule, and quality of projects from design through completion of construction, including construction administration (onsite meetings, site visits, observation reports, facilitating submittals & RFIs, Cost & Schedule control etc.).
Assists with the preparation of City Council staff reports and presentations for CIP projects.
Conducts and attends meetings with departments, design consultants, and contractors relating to design expectations and engineering requirements for CIP projects.
Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Construction, Civil Engineering, or a related field is required. Master's degree is preferred.
Five (5) years of progressively responsible project management of vertical/building, parks, and civil infrastructure projects.
At a minimum, Engineer-In-Training or Architect-In-Training is required.
Valid Arizona Operator’s Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one at the time of hire.
Work requires the ability to read construction plans and specifications, county, state and federal regulations, legal documents and descriptions, contracts, and architectural/engineering reports.Full Time
