Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Equivalent Experience:

Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus six (6) years of experience in electric utility construction, inspection, maintenance, and/or design, including (2) years of experience in leading or supervising the coordination or scheduling of electric utility construction or maintenance projects.

Licenses or Certifications:

Valid Texas Class C Driver License.

Work Schedule:

This position is categorized as Essential Personnel with the City of Austin. Essential staff are required to work during emergencies or bad weather if they are scheduled to work and, in some cases, when they are not scheduled. Essential employees ensure the continuance of key operations for the City of Austin.
Work hours may include after hours, holidays, and weekends
Shifts may change according to departmental needs.
Employee may be required to work additional hours outside of regular work schedule.

Driving Requirement:
This position requires a valid Texas Class C Drivers’ License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. City of Austin employees that promote or transfer into driving required positions must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than six City Driver Points (CDP) within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience:

Experience with pole attachment application processes and joint use transfer notification software
Experience working with contract biding processes and field inspections within a utility environment
Experience with negotiating joint use and standard pole attachment license agreements between a utility and telecommunications, video, internet, broadband or other data transmission services providers
Experience working with electric utility design, construction and engineering standards and specifications
In depth knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws and rules and regulations pertaining to 3rd party wireless and wireline attachments

Other:

Ability to travel to multiple sites as part of the regular job duties

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

Communicates with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met.

Develops, revises, and implements standard operating procedures for the section/division.

Interprets, explains, and enforces City of Austin policies, procedures, building codes, specifications, and ordinances.

Ensures compliance with Austin Energy (AE) Safety Rules and Regulations, Construction Standards, Design Criteria Manual, and Quality Management System.

Determines goals, objectives, resource requirements, and budget for associated activities.

Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.
