Peoples Natural Gas is Hiring a Water Distribution Field Supervisor I Near Austin, TX

SUMMARY:

Are you looking for a fantastic career at Aqua America? We have a great opportunity for a Field Supervisor, under the direction of the Area Manager. The Field Supervisor will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, staffing, budgeting, and performance of the facilities of the assigned water distribution systems. Distribution facilities include water mains, valves, fire hydrants, service lines, meters, and any other present or future water system and distribution system assets serving developments owned and/or operated by Aqua (state name), Inc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (Primary Duties and Responsibilities)

  • Manages the field team for the assigned site including union and non-union teams. Interviews, hires, sets high performance standards, and manages performance in accordance with all applicable HR policies and procedures. Creates an energized work environment, fostering an atmosphere that enables employee trust and engagement. Inspires confidence and motivates others to perform at their best. Develops and coaches’ staff while effectively addressing performance issues.
  • Oversees day to day operations including scheduling and tracking the work activities for the department. Works closely with other departments to share resources as needed to meet work demands.
  • Oversees planning and maintenance activities including assisting in the design of main relocations and the preparation of related estimates.
  • Manages the capital, maintenance, and operations budgets. Prepares and monitors expenses against budgets to ensure adherence to established expense limits and provides explanations of variances as needed. Works closely with the senior management team on the funding and completion of capital projects.
  • Maintains databases which track and support operations including providing reporting on compliance-related activities such as hydrant flushing, valve exercising, etc.
  • Replaces, relocates, and installs mains, services, hydrants, blow-offs, valves, and other distribution system appurtenances.
  • Partners closely with the regional engineering department to ensure construction projects meet company specifications and are properly documented and completed in accordance with established timelines.
  • Builds and maintains close working partnerships with area public utilities and political organizations. Represents the company in meetings with the township, county and state organizations for the coordination of construction and maintenance projects including main replacements, new services, hydrant installations and related appurtenances.
  • Works closely with various fire department officials in connection with hydrant maintenance programs.
  • Maintains awareness of all federal, state, and local regulations affecting the utility. Identifies changes and the associated impact on operations and makes recommendations as needed.
  • Performs other related activities as assigned which may include cleaning and maintenance of company facilities, administration of union contracts, oversight and reporting of distribution system inventory, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS (Required Experience, Education, Licenses, and Certifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management or a related field
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience in water utility system operations and capital improvement project oversight including management of large, multiple projects.
  • Minimum of a Texas commission on Environmental quality (“TCEQ”) “C” water operator’s license or ability to obtain a “C” license within 6 months of hire date.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license
  • On Call for Emergencies 24/7/365

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of main replacement practices and procedures
  • Working knowledge of excavation and work zone safety
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills; communicate effectively (clearly, concisely and professionally) with internal customers.
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine proper course of action.
  • Ability to independently work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A team player able to work effectively in a team fostered multi-tasking environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • May be subject to extreme temperatures, noise, wet and/or humid conditions, mechanical, electrical, gas exposure hazards, fumes, dusts, mists, gases and /or poor ventilation atmospheric conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • See, hear, talk and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
  • Working conditions include travel to work sites of Essential Utilities and/or other constituents (if applicable)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,296.44 - $86,959.15 per year
