SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Valley Transit has a commitment to the public. We print schedules that tell our customers where and when they can catch their bus. We are committed to having a bus on a given route at a particular time to get riders to their destinations.
Schedule options:
 1. Bid schedules: Subject to availability via the union bidding process, by seniority. Bid schedules provide a defined route and work schedule.

 2. Stand-by Driver schedule: Valley Transit's stand-by drivers cover unbid runs and vacancies created by drivers who are on vacation, sick, in training, or off for any other reason. Often there will be advance notice that a driver will be off, however sometimes there is very little to no notice at all.
Applicants should be aware that this schedule can be challenging for some.
Assignments vary greatly, including shifts from 2 to 10 hours long and split shifts. Per the labor agreement, stand-by drivers cannot be scheduled for more than 14 hours in any given day and will have at least 7.5 hours off in between punch-out and punch-in times. Should Valley Transit have no drivers available, these restrictions become void, and drivers will be requested to work by inverse-seniority.
There are certain periods of the day (4:30-7:30 A.M. Mon-Fri, 6:30-9:30 A.M. Sat., 12:30-3:30 P.M. Mon-Sat) when stand-by drivers are "on call" in the event of a last-minute vacancy. During all other regular hours of operation, a stand-by driver is required to report for work when personally notified. It is important that you are flexible and are aware of the demands of this job so we can continue to provide exceptional service for our riders and maintain a positive work culture.

The earliest driver report is at 5:25 A.M. and the last run gets back to the garage at 10:55 P.M. As a stand-by driver, you may be the one to start at 5:25 A.M. or get done at 10:55 P.M. Stand-by drivers do not have a choice as to which shift, they will work or what routes they will drive.
