ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Assist the lead instructor in teaching various levels of swim lessons through preparation of lesson plans, taking attendance, anticipating equipment use, and following modeling/ direction given.
• Ability to instruct and demonstrate the fundamentals of swimming, diving, and water safety.
• Be a positive role model for students.
• Encourage children to participate in activities through positive reinforcement.
• Perform set- up and take- down of program related equipment.
• Conduct class with proper student discipline and enthusiasm.
• Use safety techniques to properly instruct students.
• Communicate with lead instructor and/or Director of Instruction regarding any student/parent issues.

• Be at the facility, in uniform and ready to work, at the designated start of the work shift.
• Maintain upkeep and inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Communicate clearly and effectively with parents and/or participants.
• Attend all required staff meetings and trainings.
• Work closely with the Parks and Recreation Department staff to ensure all department and City of Appleton rules, policies, and procedures are observed and enforced.
• Report directly to and perform any other duties as assigned by pool management staff.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow staff members and the public in a courteous and tactful manner.

EXPERIENCE:
Knowledge and/or background of the specific program

• Current Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and AED certifications preferred.
• Experience working with children.
• Physically capable of performing and demonstrating program related activities.
• Able to work duration of the program as assigned by supervisor.
• Ability to take direction.
• Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
• Shall wear Parks and Recreation staff uniform per the City of Appleton dress code.

Minimum Age: 15 years old
