The sports camp instructor will lead one or more of our introductory summer youth sports camps, including multisport, soccer, baseball, or flag football. Sports camp instructors should have a basic working knowledge of the fundamental skills of the sport(s) they'll be instructing and be extremely confident and skilled at translating and delivering those skills to a young audience (ages 4-8). Successful instructors will have the ability to engage and gain trust with young children, and progressively help participants develop confidence and enthusiasm for the sport. Examples of Duties
Attend a paid staff meeting prior to the start of each camp
Set up camp location with equipment and communicate roles with other staff prior to the start of camp
Greet camp participants and parents as they arrive for camp
Instruct children in baseball, soccer, football, basketball and other sports through demonstrations, drills, games, and scrimmages in an enthusiastic and energetic manner
Contact participants in the event of camp cancellations and reschedule classes
Complete timecards and submit weekly
Improvise and improve camp curriculum and content if needed
Be a role model for the camp participants by displaying proper sportsmanship
Wear Parks and Recreation staff uniform per the City of Appleton dress code
Work closely with the Parks, Recreation and Facilities Management staff to ensure all department rules and policies are observed and enforced
Maintain a safe equipment and play environment
Knowledge of First Aid and CPR
Typical Qualifications
Knowledge of a variety of sports including baseball, soccer, basketball, and football and ability to demonstrate basic skills of the game to children
Previous work experience interacting and instructing children ages 4-12
Ability to maintain control of participants
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Recreation Coordinator, fellow employees, participants, and the public in a courteous and tactful manner
Ability to communicate effectively with children
Adhere to and implement the City of Appleton and Departmental policies and procedures

Employment Period: June to middle of August
Work Schedule: Classes will take place during a variety of times and days. Monday through Fridays 9 a.m. - Noon Monday through Thursdays 1 p.m. - 4 p.m Some Tuesday and Wednesday evenings 5 p.m - 8 p.m
Positions will be between 20-40 hours per week.
Work Location: Parks and Recreation office, Appleton Memorial Park, Erb Park, and potentially other city parks
