City of Albany, Georgia is Hiring a Facilities Maintenance Mechanic (Part-Time) Near Albany, GA

The purpose of this classification is to perform semi-skilled/manual work functions associated with maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment, grounds and facilities of assigned department.Performs general repair and maintenance work on buildings and related systems, such as air conditioning, heating, boilers, and sprinkler systems; repairs/maintains appliances and equipment.
Ensures that building, equipment and system operations/maintenance are in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations; monitors work safety factors to ensure safety of employee and other individuals.
Inspects buildings, equipment and systems to identify needed repairs; tests machinery, equipment and parts for proper operations.
Performs skilled labor/repair functions such as electrical and mechanical repairs, HVAC, plumbing, digital controllers painting, pressure washing, etc.; may reclaim refrigerant from air conditioning units and dispose of per established procedures.
Performs various manual work functions associated with building/equipment maintenance, which may include repairing roof leaks, replacing ceiling tiles, replacing damaged drywall, repairing/replacing carpet, regulating chemicals in cooling tower water, changing light bulbs and ballasts, cleaning condenser coils, clearing clogged plumbing lines, installing plumbing fixtures, repairing plumbing leaks, wrapping/insulating pipes, repairing/replacing locks/hardware, running cables/wires, replacing electrical receptacles, testing electrical components, lifting/moving heavy materials, digging holes, shoveling materials, etc.
Performs various manual work functions associated with grounds maintenance including mowing grass, trimming trees/shrubs, planting flowers/shrubs, removing weeds from flowerbeds, picking up debris/litter, etc.
Operates a variety of equipment, machinery, and tools used in projects, which may include a utility vehicle, air conditioner, chiller, air handler, boiler, heater, pump, mower, torch, drill, saw, pick axe, shovel, rake, gauges, meters, mechanic tools, diagnostic instruments, etc.
Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to maintain machinery, equipment and tools in operable condition, such as inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, changing filters, washing/cleaning equipment, cleaning work areas, etc.; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
May assist with set-up and tear-down for special events functions.
Maintains inventory of department equipment, tools and supplies; initiates requests for new or replacement materials.
Assists in designing building additions or renovations; reads/interprets blueprints and construction drawings.
Receives, reviews, prepares and/or completes various forms, reports, work orders, logs, purchase requests, invoices, certifications, diagrams, blueprints, manuals, correspondence, or other documentation; processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information; takes and relays messages; responds to requests for service.
Communicates with supervisor, employees, city departments, contractors, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Responds to routine requests for information from employees, officials, the public or other individuals; handles/resolves complaints, answers questions related to department operations, and provides information; includes researching problems and returning/ initiating telephone calls as needed.
Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge and awareness of applicable laws/regulations; maintains an awareness of new trends/advances in the profession; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Operates a motor vehicle for use in conducting work activities.
Conducts various errands as assigned.
Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed.
Performs other related duties as required.High school diploma or GED; supplemented by Vocational/Technical training in mechanics, painting, plumbing or electricity; supplemented by two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving mechanics, painting, plumbing, electrical work, construction or general building maintenance/repair; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's License. May require possession and maintenance of valid Freon Handler/CFC Recovery certification.Data Utilization: Requires the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize, and/or analyze data. Includes exercising discretion in determining data classification, and in referencing such analysis to established standards for the purpose of recognizing actual or probable interactive effects and relationships.
Human Interaction: Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others on how to apply procedures and standards to specific situations.
Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to overhaul, restore, renovate, construct, and/or rebuild equipment, machinery, or objects, requiring adherence to prescribed standards and specifications. Requires the ability to operate and control the actions of the same equipment, machinery, and/or objects.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive and/or advisory data and information.
Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; may require ability to utilize principles of fractions and/or interpret graphs.
Functional Reasoning: Requires ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.
Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable.

Physical Ability: Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, toxic agents, disease, or pathogenic substances.
