City Net is Hiring a Nonprofit Fundraising Development Director (office in Orange County or Sacramento) Near Anaheim, CA

Kingdom Causes, Inc.'s new Development Director will lead our efforts to obtain financial and other support to sustain our work empowering communities to end homelessness and human trafficking and to support permanent housing solutions and Foster Care initiatives.
Position Overview: City Net's Parent Organization, Kingdom Causes, Inc., is seeking a Development Director to help build its capacity to fulfill its mission by empowering people to take strategic individual and collective action to directly support the organization and its affiliates (whose causes include but are not limited to housing, anti-human trafficking, and Foster Care concerns).
The Development Director must be able to adapt to a continually evolving environment, be a skilled relationship steward, and be both a strong leader and a valuable individual contributor. A qualified candidate will be someone who has a deep respect for and understanding of a Christian worldview, and is a proven leader in interfaith and common good support raising.
The Development Director will provide leadership to the organization's efforts to obtain financial and other support to sustain its work, including planned, annual, and deferred giving; approaches to individuals, foundations, and corporations. They will manage the overall marketing and promotional functions to construct and market an appropriate image, develop ties with the community, and achieve support goals; manage department budgets; and formulate and implement policies and plans to meet the organization's short- and long-term Development objectives.
This is a new role for our growing organization. The person in this position will hire Managers for and grow the Development Department over time, and will be the ultimate supervisor for all staff of the Development Department statewide (which includes Fundraising, Grants & Government RFPs, Communications, and Community Resource Mobilization teams).
Main Work Location: Reports daily to the Anaheim, Santa Ana, or Sacramento offices.
Work Environment, Travel, and Expected Hours: This is not a fully remote position. The person in this position works full-time (40 hours per week), with a Main Worksite at one of the current activity hubs of our work. These presently include the general areas around Orange County (Anaheim/Santa Ana offices), or Sacramento County (Sacramento office). Typical office hours are Monday-Friday 8:30 am-5:00 pm, and some evenings and weekends as necessary for optimal business function. This position requires frequent, company-paid, statewide travel, including occasional overnight trips, particularly throughout Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, Sacramento, San Diego, San Joaquin, San Luis, and Santa Barbara Counties. Some administrative work may be done from home or an approved remote location.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in nonprofit fund development leadership with demonstrated success
  • Facility to, enjoyment of, and proven success in consistently representing the Christian faith-rooted principles of the organization, while demonstrating an ability to work constructively with individuals and organizations of all different faiths, or no faith
  • Due to our history as a Christian faith-based organization, many of our supporters are Protestant and Evangelical faith congregations; must display facility to, enjoyment of, and proven success in raising financial, volunteer, and in-kind support among similar groups
  • Understanding of nonprofit, volunteer, social services, and charity sectors
  • Solid understanding of private and corporate foundation grant writing best practices, as well as government fee-for-service contract proposal and report writing
  • Excellent public speaking skills; ability to teach and train others in large- and small-scale settings
  • Excellent professional and engaging verbal and written communication, strategizing, gap analysis, problem-solving, planning, execution, organizational, and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently, in a team, and as the leader of others
  • Ability to inspire, train, motivate, challenge, and coordinate others
  • Proven history of meeting or exceeding challenging goals
  • Ability to accomplish goals and produce valuable results with minimal supervision
  • Experience and enjoyment in providing timely, reliable, and responsive assistance to staff
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously while maintaining creativity and strategic thinking and continuing to meet or exceed goals
  • Ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds with varying degrees of experience
  • Proficient PC, Microsoft Office Suite, and iPhone skills
  • May be required to drive a company vehicle to transport clients. For insurance purposes, drivers of company vehicles must be at least 25 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, and must pass a Motor Vehicle Report
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer
  • Must be able to pass random drug screening and annual criminal records checks throughout employment

  • Directly and through staff/contractor oversight, research, identify, develop, deliver, and execute the organization’s annual Development plan
  • Under the direction of the President/Executive Director and in collaboration with the Leadership Team, identify current and potential Development challenges, and strategize and implement solutions. Translate strategies into clear, often “SMART” plans.
  • Formulate Development policies and make Development planning recommendations to the President/Executive Director.
  • Secure financial and in-kind support from individuals, foundations, and corporations for programmatic, capital, and operational needs
  • Create a strategic revenue growth plan annually with new prospects, including foundation/corporate/institutional partners, sponsors, individual donors, and new assets/initiatives, and actively seek and develop opportunities
  • Monitor financial expenditures and progress against budgetary plan and take appropriate measures to meet top and bottom-line development goals, ensuring a high ROI in meeting revenue targets
  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors while developing strategies to secure new financial and other funding proposals and pitches for various types of revenue sources as necessary to meet or exceed revenue goals.
  • Use sales and spending cycles to guide fundraising campaign decisions
  • Nurture a culture of giving/support with our communities including members of the Board of Directors, volunteers, residents, businesses, corporate sponsors/partners
  • Bring practical insight and best-practice strategy to the work of the Board of Directors in revenue generation and serve as a resource to Board Members who engage in prospect/donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
  • Effectively utilize our technology platforms (Bloomerang, etc.) in support of donor relationship management, marketing, communications, and growth
  • In collaboration with the Executive Leadership Team, oversee the organization and successful delivery of fundraising special events
  • Grants and Fee-for-Service Contracts
    • Directly supervise Grants and Contracts Managers
    • In collaboration with departmental staff and our President and Executive Vice President, identify grant and fee-for-service contract funding opportunities for current programs and future initiatives
    • Write content to earn grants, contracts, new audiences, and better relationships with donors and other corporations
  • Manage timeframes and submissions
    • Report activities and results per contract/grant requirements
    • Major Gifts
    • Be an active, bold, and effective networker to strengthen corporate, foundation, high-wealth individual, and commercial relationships
    • Build new donor relationships while maintaining ongoing ones
    • Develop and implement strategic plans and best practices for revenue growth, driving and encouraging creativity and innovation
    • Provide leadership, direction, and coaching to other Development staff to help members meet individual and team annual goals/targets
    • Work with the Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors to identify potential new donors and reach out to ask for support with their assistance
    • Sustain and further relationships and care of foundations, corporations, and other donors keeping them engaged, informed, and inspired to grow long-term funding relationships
    • Find ideal donors from public and private investors
  • Communications/Marketing
    • Directly supervise the Communications Manager, who will be responsible for external and internal communications
    • In collaboration with the Leadership Team, plan and implement the Organization’s communications strategies (including but not limited to updating/maintaining the organization’s websites, collateral materials, social media, Donor Development Strategy, etc.)
    • Oversee the design, creation, and production of all media and collateral associated with development efforts
    • Oversee the maintenance of our website and social media outlets
    • In collaboration with all staff, build and maintain the Organization’s good reputation
    • Present on behalf of City Net in the community; build relationships and maintain excellent relationships with current and potential stakeholders.
