General Statement of Duties
The mission of the Butte-Silver Bow Parks and Recreation Department is to sustain and improve the health, wellness, quality of life, and community closeness of the citizens of Butte-Silver Bow; and to plan for the future development of the community’s parks facilities and recreational programming.
Under the general direction of the Public Works Director or other Butte-Silver Bow Department Head(s) as directed by the Chief Executive, manages and administers the parks, recreation, urban forestry, open space parks, trails, and historic mine yards functions for Butte-Silver Bow.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
This is highly responsible administrative and supervisory work involving the planning, organization, supervision, and coordination of all operations and activities of the City-County Parks and Recreation Division. The work is performed under the general direction and supervision of the Public Works Director, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. The nature of the work includes planning, developing, directing, managing, and overseeing the activities and operations of the Park and Recreation Division including recreation, parks, aquatic facilities, skating rinks, urban forestry, open space parks and trail systems, historic mine yards, city-county owned cemetery, city-county sports facilities, golf course and related services, adult and youth programming and community-wide parades, festivals, and special events; to coordinate assigned activities with other Butte-Silver Bow departments and outside agencies.
