Citrus Health Group, Inc is Hiring a Senior Medical Editor Near Chicago, IL

About the Opportunity

The Senior Medical Editor is responsible for ensuring the overall editorial quality of communications by providing medical editing for accuracy, clarity, consistency, grammar, structure, and style. The Senior Medical Editor works closely with members of the Editorial Services, Medical & Scientific Services, Client Services, and Creative Services teams to ensure deliverables meet the highest standards of quality and accuracy. Core responsibilities and qualifications are noted as follows.

Responsibilities

  • Edit and deliver clear, factual, exceptional medical communications to clients while monitoring and meeting project specifications
  • Ensure that all deliverables meet the American Medical Association (AMA) Manual of Style, client corporate and brand style guidelines, agency style guidelines, and all Citrus editorial, publication, and ethical procedures
  • Substantively edit, copy edit, style, and proofread all publication materials (eg, manuscripts, abstracts, posters, oral presentations, slide presentations, meeting materials, brochures, print and digital tools, mailings and handouts, video scripts, websites, and other publication materials)
  • Fact check deliverables as needed
  • Ensure appropriate and accurate flow, structure, grammar, and content in edited works.
  • Consistently meet project deadlines
  • Check layouts against project drafts for completeness and accuracy
  • Check incorporation of changes into layout document by Creative Services at various stages of the project life cycle
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of reference lists
  • Identify project areas that may require expertise from other team members and elicit input as appropriate.
  • Serve as subject-matter expert regarding client and agency style, AMA style, structure, grammar, usage, and industry standards
  • Collaborate with Medical and Scientific Services and Creative Services department personnel to ensure the accuracy of the content and convey editorial comments
  • Assist colleagues with editorial problem-solving, troubleshooting, and brainstorming

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in the life sciences, journalism, English, or a related field with 3–4 years of progressive professional medical or science editing experience and/or relevant medical background with strong editing skills
  • Familiarity and ease with medical literature databases (PubMed etc)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat applications
  • Familiarity with EndNote referencing software
  • Ability to prioritize projects, collaborate on team projects, and coordinate and execute multiple tasks to serve many therapeutic teams and meet project goals
  • Ability to acquire relevant information from a variety of sources (eg, published style manuals, journal guidelines, and literature searches) and maintain accurate records of sources
  • Excellent knowledge of grammar, usage, and medical writing style guidelines (eg, AMA Manual of Style)
  • Familiarity with general scientific and medical concepts and ability to grasp more complex scientific and medical applications
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Effective attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to identify key issues and creatively and strategically overcome challenges
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability
  • Ability to think analytically and to effectively plan, prioritize, and execute assigned tasks
  • Expert verbal and written communication skills
