The Fleet Management Division ensures optimal maintenance and operation of all county vehicles and equipment, guaranteeing their reliability and efficiency to support our community's needs.

The Fleet Technician III position performs repairs, maintains, and services all Light to Heavy vehicles, equipment, buses, and rescue vehicles. The schedule for this full-time position is Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM - 5:00 PM.
  • Drives and/or operates a county vehicle or equipment and must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots hydraulic and electrical systems.
  • Drives to and from locations of vehicles/equipment to be serviced. Picks up and delivers vehicles/equipment to be serviced and from vendors.
  • Performs data entry into maintenance tracking system including, but not limited to, detailed notes for repairs and repair codes.
  • Inspects new vehicles and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Interact with customers, employees, and vendors in a professional manner.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Uses welders and torches properly and safely for various applications.
  • Reads and interprets documents, safety rules, County policy and procedures, operations/ maintenance manuals or instructions.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Education, Training, and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years’ experience in maintaining heavy equipment, emergency vehicles and general automotive vehicles.
  • Must complete Fleet Management Tech II Training Guide within one (1) year of employment.
  • Welder and torch experience.
  • Light to Heavy vehicle experience.
 
Certificates, Licenses, Registration, Skills
  • Valid Florida Driver License or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida.
  • Ability to effectively use standard maintenance equipment and hand tools.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
  • Ability to use and understand automotive/equipment scan tools and decern data in real time.
  • Ability to accomplish tasks with little to no supervision.
  • Must have a high level of problem-solving ability.
  • ASE Steering & Suspension A4, T4 and Brakes A5, T5 certifications, preferred.
  • Must have basic tools to perform daily tasks, specialty tools and toolboxes will be provided by the Fleet Management Division.
  • Requires ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with County staff, elected officials, community interest groups and the public.
  • Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses:
    • IS-100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS); and
    • IS-700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
  • Requires a combination of standing and walking.
  • The job involves frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds, and occasionally up to 20 pounds.
  • The job requires frequent bending, squatting, climbing, twisting, and occasional kneeling, bending, and reaching above shoulders.
  • The job requires the completion of tasks that involve simple grasping, pushing, pulling, fine manual manipulation, operating foot controls/levers, and driving automotive equipment.
  • The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, depth perception and color vision, hearing, and speaking.
  • The job may risk exposure to adverse weather, moving machinery, fumes and gases, electrical hazards, and extreme noise.

Emergency Response/Recovery Activities
  • All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency. During an emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location, and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens. Emergency response duties may also include driving and/or operating a county vehicle or equipment and employees must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
Basis of Rating: Some positions may require a written and/or skills test. Applications will be carefully reviewed to assess each individuals’ qualifications. Selected persons will be interviewed to determine who will be hired for the job. The kind and length of related work experience, training and education shown on the application will be an important consideration in the screening process.
 
Must successfully pass an employment reference check, criminal background check, physical examination check. Drug screens will be in accordance with the Drug Free Workplace Act and/or the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991.
