Summary: The Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) is responsible for providing basic care to guests and residents under the supervision of a licensed nurse and assists in the maintenance of the unit environment.

Essential Responsibilities/Duties:
· Receives reports regarding the status of the assigned residents and guests at the beginning of the shift.
· Performs direct and indirect resident care activities as ordered and consistent with the facilities policies and procedures to include:
o Bathing, feeding, dressing, toileting and grooming
o Providing oral hygiene and denture care
o Measuring intake and output, administering enemas, collecting urine and stool specimens
o Positioning and transferring residents
o Monitoring and releasing restraints
o Performing active and passive range of motion exercises
o Lifting residents manually and with mechanical lifts
o Assisting residents with mobility
o Weighing residents
o Taking vital signs
o Providing post mortem care
· Assists physicians and nurses with treatment and procedures.
· Assists with admissions, transfers and discharges of residents and guests.
· Marks resident and guest personal possessions.
· Documents care provided to residents and guests.
· Participates in the development of resident and guest care plans.
· Reports to Clinical Manager or Charge Nurse changes in resident and guest status, responses to care, equipment and maintenance needs, safety hazards, unusual occurrences or observations and any problems with completing assignment.
· Protects residents and guests from complications and injuries.
· Transports and escorts residents and guests.
· Directs resident, guest and visitor complaints to Charge Nurse.
· Provides report to supervising nurse at the end of the shift.
· Ensures resident and guests rights are protected and ensures they are free from abuse and neglect.
· Adheres to infection control practices.
· Attends In-Service training to maintain and improve competencies.
· Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
Current Maryland certification as Geriatric Nursing Assistant. High School graduate or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
· Promotes positive image of long-term care nursing and our facility to residents, guests, families and the community.
· Protects the privacy of residents, guests and employees.
· Practices professional nursing codes of ethics.
· Requires excellent verbal and written communications skills, and a professional demeanor.
· Projects good judgment and performs all duties satisfactorily while prioritizing projects as assigned.
· Exhibits excellent customer service skills and attention to detail.
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
Must be able to stand, sit, stoop, push, pull, balance, reach, grasp, kneel, climb and lift up to 50 pounds. Exposure to blood borne pathogens.
