HarperCollins Focus - Cider Mill Press is seeking an experienced and results-driven Director of Marketing to lead our marketing initiatives across both digital and brick-and-mortar platforms. This pivotal role involves strategizing and executing marketing programs that boost the visibility and sales of our frontlist and select backlist titles across various digital platforms. The Director will play a critical role in the strategic development of our digital marketing landscape, crafting and implementing comprehensive marketing campaigns that resonate with our target audience, enhance engagement with our titles and authors, and achieve our sales objectives.

The Director's responsibilities require a strong analytical approach to evaluate campaign performances, market trends, and consumer behaviors to continuously refine marketing efforts. Social media's role in discovering and engaging with books is central, necessitating innovative, data-driven campaigns that resonate with our target audience. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record in blending creative marketing with analytical rigor, leveraging the latest trends and technologies to foster reader engagement and achieve sales objectives. This visionary leader will streamline efforts across departments.

Our ideal candidate is a seasoned digital marketing leader familiar with the ever-changing digital marketing landscape. The candidate is a strategic and tactical leader in planning and managing digital marketing activities for frontlist and backlist titles to meet sales goals. This position will lead the strategic development of our digital marketing landscape and develop online advertising, consumer targeting, consumer messaging, SEO & keyword strategy, seasonal marketing campaigns, and social media strategy. This position will also be responsible for the ROI analysis and reporting of results for each campaign.

Responsibilities

  • Identify online media outlets, execute media buy, setup target audiences, budgets, and bids. This position will be responsible for running and managing campaigns on Amazon, Facebook/Instagram, Google, YouTube, Pinterest, and more. This person will also be responsible for managing our external Amazon performance marketer.
  • Oversee the execution of digital marketing activity for the team across all channels including support for online advertising activities, promotional emails, and social media outreach to target audiences.

  • Manage creation of digital marketing assets (online ads, emails, web pages, graphics, video ads, etc.) for internal and external email lists, blogs, affiliates, paid search, and social media marketing.

  • Work with cross-functional partners including publishing, sales, research/consumer insights, supply chain, production, finance, and others to deliver winning consumer and customer plans via strong digital marketing strategy.

  • Monitor and track progress of digital ad campaigns and make real-time adjustments.

  • Oversee management of metadata projects (SEO & keyword strategy) with editorial.

  • Measure success, trends, and ROI of marketing initiatives.

  • Participate in sales conference, executive team, and potential external partner presentations.

  • Lead weekly marketing meetings.

  • Manage fiscal year digital marketing budget for assigned projects.

  • Own and operate the team’s organic social channels and create a content ecosystem within multiple owned brands and external partners.

  • Identify and nurture content partnerships to bring the CMP brand to different and diverse audiences across the social universe through creative and customized engagement tactics (e.g. influencer marketing, giveaways, etc.)

  • Develop and execute integrated marketing campaigns for product lines to optimize sales for all front-list and backlist projects and product lines.

  • Secure and lead external marketing partners/vendors.

  • Analyze marketing campaigns and makes recommendations for adjustments and key learnings based on those results.

  • Assist in other marketing-related activities, as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s in Marketing or related field

Work Experience & Industry Knowledge:

  • 7-10 years of marketing experience in book publishing or a related content-driven industry, with a proven track record of successful marketing campaign development and execution.
  • Fluent in current marketing technologies and platforms, with a knack for identifying and leveraging emerging trends.

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of social channels (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, Pinterest, etc.) and how each platform can be used most efficiently in different scenarios.

  • Deep understanding of digital marketing strategies, including SEO, email marketing, social media, and online advertising.

  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, capable of inspiring a team and collaborating effectively with various internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical skills, with experience in measuring and interpreting marketing campaign performance data to inform decision-making.

  • Highly creative, with a passion for books and the ability to develop compelling marketing narratives.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with meticulous attention to detail and a focus on deadlines and budget management.

  • Ability to interpret data using established analytics and reporting tools to understand campaign performance and create actionable programs on social platforms, while educating senior leadership.
