CICONIX is Hiring a RESEARCH SCIENTIST (DISSEMINATION & IMPLEMENTATION) Near Washington, DC

The Research Scientist will assist with formulating experimental hypotheses and designing experimental and other study protocols, specifically in neuroimaging health services research and dissemination and implementation (“D&I”). The Research Scientist will assist in developing DoD/ TBICoE gap-driven clinical research studies and protocols and processes and interpret experimental and other study data. The Research Scientist will coordinate with other technical and professional staff, prepare documents, written reports, and manuscripts for submission to scientific journals, and complete other TBICoE clinical and operational research projects as needed. Will conduct dissemination activities in collaboration with D&I specialists to aggregate data on TBICoE D&I efforts. This role provides both local site services and service on a regional basis. The individual must coordinate issues that affect network regional support (i.e., support that is outside the authority of the local government site director) with the TBICoE HQ government lead.
Primary Responsibilities:
This position is key to advancing D&I science in the military medical and operational environment. Responsibilities will support D&I efforts through the following:
  • Leads and assists the development of research/clinical investigations/studies projects and carries out all necessary responsibilities related to these projects. May serve as a Principal or Associate Investigator on TBICoE clinical research studies.
  • Serves as a consultant to aid network research teams in infusing implementation science principles into the design of TBICoE gaps-driven research studies.
  • Investigates the feasibility of applying various scientific methodologies and concepts to promising products and technologies.
  • Assists with formulating experimental hypotheses and designs experimental and other study protocols.
  • Prepares requests for actions/proposals, including assisting with grant proposal applications and their associated documentation and requirements. Facilitates the flow and approval processes for relevant projects as needed or requested.
  • Assists in developing and testing necessary new technologies, protocols and processes; analyzes and interprets experimental and other study data and coordinates with other technical and professional staff.
  • Prepares documents, written reports, and manuscripts for submission to scientific journals and completes other projects as needed. When applicable, will assist with drafting MOA/MOUs/CRADAs.
  • Provides collaborative assistance to other Research Scientists and research teams.
  • Assists the team on program/ project improvement initiatives at the site.
  • Presents TBICoE’s clinical research findings at internal and external scientific meetings.
  • Serves as a TBI research consultant in the area of neuroimaging in dissemination and health services research design for both HQ and the TBICoE network.
  • Attends and participates in scholarly, academic, and scientific meetings related to TBI.
  • Contributes to the preparation of manuscripts for publication in the area of TBI and presentation of posters and papers at scientific meetings.
Position Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of applicable complex scientific procedures and techniques specifically in dissemination, implementation and health services research the area of neuroimaging; excellent communication skills; ability to troubleshoot technical procedures; ability to work independently and supervise others working for this contract. Excellent collaborative skills required. S/he will have experience producing data/ manuscripts for publications in peer-reviewed journals and conducting presentations at professional meetings. The contractor must be able to work comfortably with computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint and related statistical packages.
Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Ph.D., MD or MD/PhD or terminal doctorate degree in related scientific discipline preferred. May consider a Master’s level degree with at least 10 years of clinical TBI research experience. Must complete CITI/ HIPAA training.
Minimum Experience: 2-3 years of clinical research experience required. Prior experience within the DoD/VA systems of care with neurological disorders and TBI clinical research experience strongly preferred.
Required Licenses: None.
Physical Capabilities: Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to carry light items – up to 25 lbs.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls: May supervise junior research staff.
Work Environment: Office, clinical and hospital environment. May encounter patients who are confused, agitated or abusive. Must be available to travel locally, regionally and nationally.
