Church Hill Activities & Tutoring is Hiring a Driver On-Call | Minibus & Van Near Richmond, VA

Church Hill Academy (CHA) is the East End’s own fully-accredited, private, Christian high school. CHA is part of Church Hill Activities and Tutoring (CHAT), a nonprofit organization that serves youth through education, vocational training, after-school enrichment activities, and community partnerships. From its inception, CHA has sought to propel CHAT’s mission and values in an academic setting for 9th-12th grade students and to prepare them for success after high school. We seek to empower students to become leaders and culture-makers. Our school’s mission statement: Church Hill Academy equips high school students to achieve academic success, develop character, and serve their community.

Driver On-Call is an entry-level position that is part of the Church Hill Academy team. The incumbent willprovide as-needed transportation to and from school for students who attend the Academy. Drivers are a crucial part of the CHA team because transportation provides access to educational services. The driver position reports to the Assistant Principal and supervises no staff.

Essential Duties:

  • Drives a Minibus (14-passenger) and/or Van (12-passenger)
  • Provides consistent, reliable, timely and safe transportation for Church Hill Academy students
  • Adheres to a schedule and consistently report to work
  • Greets students warmly by name and ensures students maintain orderly conduct while riding the bus, documenting and communicating any incidents to your supervisor
  • Checks email and reports for daily verbal check-ins with supervisor about route changes or other issues
  • Maintains cleanliness of vehicle and report vehicle repairs to supervisor immediately
  • Observes safety precautions while loading and discharging passengers while bus is in operation

Qualifications: Any combination of stated education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or training that demonstrates the ability to perform essential duties is acceptable

Required Qualifications

  • Faith in Jesus Christ, affirming the Apostles’ Creed and lived out in a faith community
  • Age 21 or older
  • Valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver’s License
  • One year experience legally operating mini-buses (14-passenger) or vans (12-passenger)
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Strong verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with teenagers or youth in a similar setting, such as school or summer camp
  • First Aid and CPR certified

Position Overview & Compensation

  • Part-time, up to 15 hours/week when school is in session
  • Overtime Non-exempt
  • Hourly Rate: $20, negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience
  • Typical Schedule (Monday-Friday), subject to change:
    • 6:45am-8:15am and 2:45-4:15pm
    • Additional hours Monday through Friday, as needed
  • This position functions on a school year basis, usually mid-August to mid-June, except designated school days off or holidays.
  • A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is NOT required.
