Chrysalis House is Hiring a Mental Health Therapist Part Time Near Crownsville, MD

This is an opportunity to work as a part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team, providing services to a broad spectrum of clients. Our ideal candidate is familiar with other services and resources in the community and works closely with them to provide information and support when required.

MISSION: The mission of Chrysalis House Inc.is to provide comprehensive recovery services that empower women to build a better life for themselves and their children.

SUMMARY: The Mental Health Therapist is responsible for using a holistic and therapeutic approach while providing diagnostic assessments, therapy, and counseling and support services. Specifically mental health treatment, substance abuse treatment, and education through group and individual therapy sessions for Chrysalis House clients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Maintain confidentiality of records relating to clients' treatment
  • Conduct outreach and referral activities in surrounding communities
  • Gather information about community mental health needs and resources that could be used in conjunction with therapy
  • Plan and conduct programs to prevent substance abuse or improve community health and counseling services
  • Act as a client advocate to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations
  • Evaluate clients' mental condition based on review of client information, interviews, observation, tests, and collaboration with other staff members to perform clinical assessments and develop treatment plans
  • Conduct initial family assessments and refer patients, clients, or family members to community resources or to specialists as necessary
  • Develop and implement treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge
  • Guide clients in the development of skills and strategies for dealing with their problems
  • Encourage clients to express their feelings and discuss what is happening in their lives, and help them to develop insight into themselves and their relationships
  • Counsel clients, individually and in group sessions, to assist them in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, and making changes
  • Provide individual and family counseling services using family management principles to clients
  • Modify treatment activities and approaches as needed to comply with changes in clients' status.
  • Meet with families, school staff, probation officers, law enforcement, and other interested parties to exchange necessary information during the treatment process
  • Discuss with individual patients their plans for life after leaving therapy
  • Provide collateral consultation as appropriate as well as court testimony as required
  • Submit billing and other related paperwork in a timely fashion
  • Maintain all professional licensure(s) required and provide prompt cooperation with third party credentialing for billing purposes.
  • Maintain up-to-date client and program records as required by funders and agency.
  • Prepare monthly written reports on demographics, presenting issues, and outcomes, and summarizing project results, as required by funders and the agency
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of counseling programs and clients' progress in resolving identified problems and moving towards defined objectives
  • Prepare and maintain all required treatment records and reports
  • Prepare and submit written quarterly and annual reports as required by funders and agency
  • Conduct activities related to compliance with federal and state laws related to mandated reporting, HIPPA, and the Data Privacy Act
  • Learn about new developments in their field by reading professional literature, attending courses and seminars, and establishing and maintaining contact with other social service agencies
  • Other duties as assigned

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate understanding of special treatment needs of women substance abusers in a residential treatment setting and show evidence of empathy, sensitivity, and maturity.

  • Ability to provide genuine warmth, empathy, honesty, sensitivity towards clients to help assist in fostering positive transformation.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Independent licensure as a LCSW, LCSW-C, LPC, or LMFT.
  • Prefer candidate with five years of providing diagnostic assessment experience and therapy services to a full range of individuals from youth through adulthood, addressing a wide variety of problems and disorders, in a multicultural setting.

STANDARD REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must maintain professional licensure and/or certification throughout employment with this agency
  • Exercises sound judgment and integrity in problem solving and decision-making, ensuring such decisions are based on solid facts.
  • Must be able to work flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends on occasion
  • Must be able to work as a team member and cooperatively with county, community, and family programs
  • Must have reliable means of transportation and a valid driver’s license.
  • Must maintain agency, coworker, and client confidentiality and abide by the Data Privacy Act and the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act
  • Is skilled in identifying and solving bottlenecks by solving problems before they become critical.
  • Promotes quality values throughout the organization by being knowledgeable about the standards and requirements in the field and implementing measures to avoid a recurrence of errors.
  • Excels in the strategic repositioning of resources, when necessary, in a changing environment by effectively assessing and deploying employee resources, strengths and competencies.
  • Effectively leads team members in understanding the values and mission of the organization by setting clear goals and objectives. Expects all team members to make maximum contributions.
  • Clean driving record and valid driver’s license
  • Clean criminal background check and negative toxicology screening

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Most days, employees will be working a portion of the day outside in temperatures ranging from 20F with wind chill to 95F. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
