Job Description:

Christian Brothers University is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to lead the Department of Campus Ministry. Reporting to the Vice President of Mission and Identity, the Director of Campus Ministry fosters a community in which the faith development of students is both encouraged and affirmed. This manifests through pastoral care to students that encourage spiritual and moral growth; plans and directs faith-based programs and activities, and promotes the University's Catholic and Lasallian mission and identity.

Supervision and Management

  • Cultivate and promote the Lasallian mission.
  • Prepare and oversee the campus ministry annual budget.
  • Build partnerships with other departments, including academic services, student development, campus life, and admissions.
  • Act as liaison with the University chaplain and other priests of the Diocese of Memphis when applicable.
  • Represent Campus Ministry at appropriate events and presentations as needed, i.e., CBU 101 Orientation Program.
  • Represent Campus Ministry on appropriate committees and/or those assigned by the VP of Mission and Identity.
  • Maintain active membership in CCMA (Catholic Campus Ministry Association), and attend conferences and workshops to continue campus ministry development.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled departmental meetings.
  • At the end of each semester, assess the efficacy of programs and areas of growth where current needs are not being met.
  • Maintain physical campus ministry offices and reception area.
  • Available to assist with CBU Summer Orientation when necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by the VP for Mission and Identity.

Pastoral

  • Maintain a presence of ministry to all University community students with sensitivity to all faith traditions. This includes both commuter and residential students.
  • Advise ministry and faith formation in faith-based student organizations on campus, e.g., Catholic Student Association, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Catholic Relief Services, and Muslim Student Association.
  • Collaborate with other Campus Ministry staff members on developing and maintaining faith-sharing groups / Bible studies.
  • Design and facilitate all prayer services in collaboration with the Campus Ministry Team.
  • Appropriately respond to events of a sensitive nature that occur on campus and/or in the greater community, e.g., natural disasters, tragedies, etc.
  • Support ecumenical experiences that reflect the needs of our student population.

Retreats and Service Opportunities

  • Coordinate and co-facilitate retreat experiences, including Koinonia, Busy Persons, Gateway, or other retreat opportunities.
  • Design and facilitate alternative service trips during designated breaks in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Campus Ministry.
  • Create and advise Catholic Relief Services (CRS) university chapter on campus.
  • Develop programming around the Seven Themes of Catholic Social Teaching.
  • Promote and educate the university community about the Lasallian Volunteer Program.

Requirements:

  • A practicing Catholic.
  • A minimum of two years of full-time experience in the area of pastoral ministry or theology.
  • Management experience with diverse populations, specifically students and persons from differing cultural and religious backgrounds.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships across the university campus.
  • Ability to adapt to schedule changes that include some evening and weekend hours.

Preferred:

Master's Degree in Theology, Pastoral Ministry, or another related field.
