This position will oversee, direct and manage the youth and young adult ministries. The purpose is to educate, to minister to participants and to train others for active engagement within the church. This person will partner closely with the Minister of Music; as well as provide leadership to the Youth & Young Adults Performing Arts Coordinator and Youth Advisor Volunteers in creating opportunities for youth to participate in worship services and events.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Youth Ministry Director / Pastor will be required to participate in leadership meetings and onsite training programs. Must be available on Saturday and Sunday for church events or meetings.
Leadership
i. Provide strategic direction and oversight to the youth and young adult groups by ensuring the ministry is coordinated and integrated into the overall vision and goals of the church. Partners closely with the Pastoral Staff & Ministry Leaders to create programs that support and enhance existing initiatives for the overall health and growth of ATOP. Implement voted actions and special church sponsored projects established by the Pastor and governing Executive Leadership Board
ii. Identify the needs and interests of teens within the church and community. Plan, organize and develop programs and outreach opportunities for the youth ministry. Evaluate existing programs to determine effectiveness
iii. Provide leadership training, skills assessment, evaluation and resource materials to department staff and Youth Advisor Volunteers. Recruit talent to support the ministry and plan one major training/inspirational workshop a year. Create a learning environment that encourages productivity, rewards effort and initiative, and provides a spiritual climate that supports individual and collective growth and development
iv. Lead and/or coordinate bible study and Sunday youth church
v. Partner with the Youth & Young Adults Performing Arts Coordinator, Minister of Music, staff and/or volunteers in planning and directing activities for the fourth Sunday worship service and special events
vi. Plan an annual youth retreat for the purpose of spiritual edification
vii. Lead and recruit volunteers/staff when needed for managing an on-site after school program
viii. Demonstrate active engagement in outreach by supporting conferences and local church sponsored programs with attendance. Participate in training opportunities yearly or as presented for personal development
ix. Visit members of the youth ministry who are hospitalized
x. Provide counseling and spiritual direction on an individual basis
Administration
i. Develop the annual ministry budget and track expenditures/expenses
ii. Conduct regular meetings with staff and volunteers to ensure effectiveness in communications and the implementation of programs and goals of the ministry. Meet monthly for prayer and to plan upcoming events and strategize action-oriented solutions
iii. Develop tracking and data analytics that measures progression of the ministry. Maintain statistical records of all programs by supplying leaders with the appropriate forms and deadlines in administering the annual calendar, gifts assessment, budgets, etc.
iv. Secure 501c3 grants
v. Manage a robust system of communications (directory) to keep all informed of activities, achievements and needs of the ministries
vi. Recruit and engage in youth outreach via email, phone call, letter or visit
vii. Other duties as assigned or needed for the success of the department
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree (or) equivalent experience in teaching or training & development
Two (2) years minimum experience serving in a ministry position in a church, a church sponsored-related ministry or non-profit and prior leadership (supervisory) experience with heavy emphasis in business administration
Excellent oral and written communications skills; strong presentation skills with ability to prepare accurate and concise reporting using data and statistics. Must demonstrate effective relationship building through positive interactions and networking at all levels internally and externally
Preferred: Licensed as a minister (or) pursuing ordination and licensing as a minister
