Children's Specialty Group, PLLC is Hiring a Crisis Psychologist - Outpatient/Crisis Stabilization Near Norfolk, VA

General Summary

The Crisis Psychologist is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who will provide response, rapid stabilization and prevention for patients in crisis in an innovative interdisciplinary setting. Direct psychological services include evidence-based assessment and short-term treatment of patients in crisis presentations and transitioning of patients to appropriate levels of care within the community. Indirect patient care includes interdisciplinary collaboration with psychiatry, social work, case management and pediatrics/emergency department, and any other sub-specialties as appropriate; training and clinical supervision of therapists working with the program will also be involved. Faculty appointment at Eastern Virginia Medical School is available for qualified individuals. Opportunities to conduct research are open to discussion. Reports to Director of Psychology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Development and Implementation

  • Apply evidence-based practice and intervention, and develop therapeutic programming appropriate for patients with crisis stabilization needs. Develop training curricula as needed. Develop training curricula as needed.
  • Provide clinical supervision and support to clinicians conducting assessment and short-term intervention in the Emergency Department and Crisis Stabilization settings.
  • Implement evidence-based practices and procedures to patients, to include group, individual therapy and family therapy.
  • Lead treatment team meetings
  • Participate in projects related to quality service delivery and patient re-presentation to the Emergency Department.
  • When appropriate, assist in development of further crisis stabilization programming for the Mental Health Service line continuum of care.

Clinical/Direct Patient Care

  • Individual, family therapy, group therapy
  • Assessment of risk/safety at each patient contact
  • Preparation of comprehensive discharge summaries to receiving outpatient providers
  • In collaboration with interdisciplinary team, assist in clinical case conceptualization and treatment planning for youth in crisis.
  • Coordinate treatment with other disciplines and function within an interdisciplinary team approach.
  • Conduct psychological assessments in the outpatient setting as needed.

Other Professional Activities

  • Provide clinical supervision to psychology trainees and students and facilitate individual and/or group supervision as needed.
  • Problem solve challenging care dynamics in a professional and supportive manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Licenses and/or Certifications

  • Licensed, or eligible for licensure, as a Clinical Psychologist by the Commonwealth of Virginia, Board of Psychology.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, either a PsyD or PhD from an APA/CPA accredited program.
  • Successful completion of an APA/CPA accredited pre-doctoral internship.
  • Previous clinical experience in an emergency room or crisis stabilization setting treating youth with acute mental health conditions.
  • Experience with crisis chain analysis, evidence-based treatment approaches (e.g., DBT, CBT and PMT) and development of behavioral plans required.
  • Experience providing training and clinical supervision to mental health providers.
