Children's Home Network is Hiring a Background Screening Specialist Near Clearwater, FL

The Background Screening Specialist works in support, and as part of, an established team to help execute processes and deliver pre-employment background screening services. The Background Screening Specialist is responsible for processing, researching and adjudicating Background Screening cases for new hires. Provides support to the Support Services Manager in selecting appropriate respite care candidates for the teams. Participates in organization’s continuous quality improvement efforts.

BACKGROUND SCREENING SPECIALIST ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide support for securing qualified respite providers under the supervision of the Support Services Manager.
  • Conduct background verification calls and services.
  • Quickly & effectively researching information online.
  • Ability to conduct advanced telephonic and online database searches and relay information to complete the background
  • Processing background reports according to company guidelines.
  • Maintaining in-depth working knowledge of departmental guidelines & processes
  • Follow all applicable laws in order to remain in compliance while providing maximum possible accuracy in reportable records to the candidates for employment.
  • Analyze results as investigation proceeds and provide recommendations to the candidate
  • Communicate with assigned candidates and team members and provide regular updates concerning results, turnaround time, & recommendations
  • Obtain and keep current any required Basic Screening Certification
  • Cross training and assisting in other areas as needed
  • Conduct administrative tasks as required by the Support Services Manager
  • Leads and communicates daily with third party vendor on all background investigation matters.
  • Oversees, investigates, and analyzes personally identifiable information/data submitted by applicants/employees.
  • Leads and interprets results of the final background check report conducted by vendor and make recommendation if applicant and/or transfer employee is approved or denied employment.
  • Informs Manager of the results of background investigation on a daily basis. Inform and directs recruitment staff on all questions/matter pertaining to background checks procedure and provides guidance on what is needed for final processing.
  • Develops, plan, evaluates and improve the efficiency of business processes and procedures to enhance the quality and efficiency of background processing.
  • Develops daily workflow of the background screening in the administration and processing of background investigation requests and provides guidance on interpretation of results
  • Ensures all confidential Federal and State documents are enclosed, maintained, and secured in each applicant’s employment/background file (i.e., DMV, State Education Releases, etc.). Acts in accordance with all HIPAA regulations.
  • Ensures CHN’s commitment to providing a safe and secure environment by performing and assessing criminal background checks for persons selected for initial employment.
  • Counsels and responds to applicants/employees on problems, questions and issues related to adverse results reported on their background check. Manages when further investigation is required and additional information to be supplied. Manages interactions with candidates to gather missing/clarifying information.
  • Manages the bill paying process and ensures timely payment to vendor for background check investigations. Verifies the information and monies to be paid.
  • Manages database of department metrics and provide statistical reports as needed.
  • Assists Manager with special projects of confidential and sensitive nature.
  • Performs other duties as assigned***

BACKGROUND SCREENING SPECIALIST MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or High school Diploma and at least two (2) years of equivalent experience preferred. 
  • Licenses & Certifications:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license with no record of criminal driving offense of license suspension.
  • Must possess means of providing job related transportation and show proof of required insurance. Must be insurable under CHI’s current auto insurance policy.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Must successfully complete and maintain FDLE clearance, Federal background and state criminal background check and sexual predator screening. 

BACKGROUND SCREENING SPECIALIST COMPETENCIES & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Competencies:

  • Knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheet, and related basic computer software, including MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and program specific software.
  • Excellent skills in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, database and presentation packages with proficiency in manipulating, analyzing and presenting data
  • Solid skill set in writing formal reports and papers independently and to a high standard.
  • Ability to take personal initiative and work under pressure while delivering results within deadlines through effective planning and prioritization
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate effectively with clients, staff and managers of the company.
  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Former background screening, government or military intelligence work is a plus.
  • Experience with Accurint, Lexis, Westlaw, PACER is a plus
  • Experience with court research or public record searches a plus.
  • Knowledge of effective office procedures and practices. 
  • Possess effective organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. 
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with clients, co-workers, supervisors and other individuals. Possess effective interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of agency's organizational structure, standard operating procedures, and policies. 

Annual Training Requirements: 

  • Complete annual training requirements for Administrative personnel.

 Essential Physical Skills:

  • Visual: ability to safely operate a motor vehicle, read printed materials, and make observations of physical facilities.
  • Hearing: ability to understand and comprehend spoken dialogue in individual and group settings.
  • Ability to speak clearly and effectively.
  • Reasonable accommodation will be made for otherwise qualified individuals with a disability.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and related office equipment. Ability to use hands and fingers for typing. Ability to communicate verbally. Good hearing (with or without hearing device). 

Environmental Conditions:

  • Works within an office environment, home office, family’s home, or within the community.
  • High level of emotional discussions, requiring self-awareness and understanding of professional boundaries.

Supervision Received: 

  • Weekly meetings for supervision are provided by Support Services Manager.
