Summary:

Provide spiritual care and emotional support for patients, patient families and team members through out the organization. Provide care and support in response to critical events, both patient and community based, in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members to ensure emotional needs of all are met. Collaborate with CPE certified educators to supervise CPE students and their pursuit of formal training.

The Spirituality of Children is a hallmark of the Spiritual Care and Education department at Children's Health. This position presumes knowledge of, respect for, and creativity in promoting and providing for each child's spirituality that we have in our care. This position requires knowledge of a diversity of cultural and religious faith traditions and practices and supports the practice of diversity and inclusion in every facet of the care we provide.

Responsibilities:

* Collaborate with psychosocial care team to provide appropriate spiritual care and emotional support to patients and patient families throughout the continuum of care.

* Provide assessment of patient and patient families spiritual and emotional needs during admissions including possible religious sacraments and rituals, connect with patient/patient family's faith-based communities.

* Respond to patient and patient family needs during times of crisis: code blue, trauma alerts, etc.

* Provide decedent care to all patients at end of life and after death including collaborating with medical team to ensure family needs are met, coordinating movement to the morgue and providing viewing opportunities for patient families.

* Assist physicians in the communicating and consenting process for autopsies.

* Coordinate patient body release with county medical examiners and funeral homes, ensure all appropriate paperwork is completed and placed in patient medical record.

* Collaborate with pathology for all autopsies including communication with family of completed autopsy and autopsy review meetings. Coordinate consenting process and transfer of patient body for outside autopsies.

* Coordinate with Southwest Transplant Alliance and the medical team for any organ donation conversations with families and be a liaison during the organ donation process including arranging for family requests such as honor walks.

* Collaborate with Bereavement Program regarding ongoing grief/bereavement needs of families.

* Provide emotional support and spiritual guidance to hospital personnel and others in assigned area(s) of hospital to assist in their personal and spiritual adjustment.

* Facilitate faith-based gatherings in the chapel to meet spiritual needs of patients, patient families and team members.

* Collaborate with other departments such as marketing, communications, DEI, RISE, etc. to provide education for team members regarding faith-based practices and to respond to any community or worldwide events that may have significant impact on patients, patient families and team members.

* Participate in regular and special religious services as required; provide instruction in pastoral care techniques to interested groups and organizations; maintain liaison between local clergy and hospital staff; represent the hospital in community and professional association group meetings.

* Supervise chaplains in training through the Clinical Pastoral Education program within the department including day to day supervision and teaching of skill set, providing teaching about spiritual care principles and providing feedback related to performance.

* Participate in hospital and/or system wide committees, representing Spiritual Care; participate in department based projects including PI endeavors.

* Perform other duties and special projects as required.

This is a full-time position.

How You'll Be Successful:

WORK EXPERIENCE

* Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) 4 units Required

* Professional or Faith Body Endorsement Preferred

EDUCATION

* Master's degree (or equivalent graduate coursework) in Divinity, Theology, Philosophy, Psychology, Pastoral care, or related degree field from an accredited university or equivalent Required

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

* Board Certified Chaplain Preferred
