Child Action, Inc. (CAI) is a private, non-profit corporation created in 1976 to promote the education and social welfare of children and families and to advocate on their behalf. Our programs include resource and referral services for families seeking child care, child care subsidies for qualifying families, recruitment and professional development of the child care workforce, and family education and support.
We are seeking individuals who are highly organized, have the ability to multi-task, provide excellent customer service, have good problem solving skills and have the ability to understand the problems and issues facing families from a variety of ethnic and economic communities.
Position Purpose & Scope:
The Child Care Coordinator is primarily responsible for providing information, training and technical assistance to parents, child care providers and communities to ensure the health and safety of children in care, help improve child care capacity, and the quality of child care services in Sacramento County. The incumbent performs a variety of tasks including project coordination, consultation and mentoring and may lead and/or direct the work of others. The Child Care Coordinator is responsible for knowing all guidelines, regulations, and policies developed or set forth by the Board of Directors and the Director of Community Services.
Typical Duties:
  • Presents and provides child care information at meetings, presents agency services to the community, answers community questions to clarify laws and regulation for child care licensing
  • Collaborates with community partners and department staff to provide resources, consultation and support to child care providers
  • Develops and maintains relationships with the child care and early care and education programs
  • Provides technical assistance on mentoring, quality child care practices and environments, child development and parenting issues, regulations, licensing, zoning, and public policy affecting children
  • Develops, provides and/or promotes workshops, training and educational opportunities for childcare professionals including family child care home providers and child care center classroom staff and administrators
  • Provides stipends and/or equipment necessary to provide quality child care services
  • Conducts site visits and provides mentoring, coaching, and consultation to child care providers
  • Coordinates and conducts workshops and trainings on health and safety, child development, quality childcare, child care business planning, and best practices
  • Assists in documenting and maintaining project information and statistics for Unit Program Reports
  • Collects, compiles and maintains participant information for all Unit Programs including training, technical assistance and incentives received
  • Coordinates, provides and delivers services to non-English-Speaking communities in Sacramento County
  • Liaison to Community Care Licensing Division providing technical assistance to licensing workers and providers
  • Integrate strengths-based strategies into services provided to parents and child care providers • Participates in community education including community fairs and events
  • Attends staff meetings, training and unit meetings • Participates in the assessment, planning, and development of program services
  • Documents and tracks participant activity for program reports and service planning
  • Provides technical assistance and referrals to “walk-in” clients
  • Registers and facilitates workshops, training, and educational opportunities for caregivers, child care professionals, and parents
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor degree in a field that develops skills related to typical duties; four years of additional professional experience may substitute for the required education; and
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience in assigned program area.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Abilities:
  • Knowledge and competency of Microsoft Office and other database applications, administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology
  • Knowledge of County, State and Federal program requirements for childcare licensing
  • Knowledge of standard concepts, practices and procedures for childcare licensing
  • Ability to obtain County security clearance to access county computer system
  • Ability to interpret and apply information, laws, rules and regulations and other guidelines pertaining to childcare program licensing
  • Ability to analyze data; add, subtract, and multiply
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to interact effectively with clients; possess good customer relations skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to make decisions, use good judgment, and problem solve
  • Ability to meet schedules and timelines and manage time effectively
  • Ability to comply with agency safety and ergonomics policies and practices
  • Must be able to work additional overtime and weekend hours as required
  • Ability to understand the problems and issues facing families from a variety of ethnic and economic communities; ability to work with diverse groups
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; discretion in handling confidential information and ability to honor confidentiality and work sensitively and supportively with the public

Physical Factors:
  • Works in an office setting. Work is primarily sedentary but may also work outdoors at field sites on an incidental basis and requires light physical effort; may require greater physical effort on an incidental basis.
  • Possess visual capability and digital dexterity to operate a computer and other standard office equipment
  • Make fine visual distinctions upon proofreading written documents and viewing information on a computer screen
  • May be subject to various job demands such as high volume of work and tight deadlines
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle, provide and maintain current valid driver's license and auto insurance

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Pay Grade Range: $25.39 - $28.06 per hour
Closing Date: Monday, June 26, 2023 at 12:00 PM
Hours: Must be able to work full-time, 40.0 hours per week (8.0 hours a day), Monday through Friday. All employees must be able to work additional overtime and weekend hours as required.
