CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION COUNCIL OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY (CAPC)

JOB DESCRIPTION

COMMUNITY EDUCATION COORDINATOR

REPORTS TO: CAPC Executive Director

SALARY: 30 hours a week, $25-$30 per hour DOE plus benefits

INTRODUCTION: The Child Abuse Prevention Council of Contra Costa County (CAPC) is a nonprofit, tax exempt 501(c)3 organization. CAPC ‘s mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect in Contra Costa by raising community awareness, influencing public policy, educating the community and providing resources and support programs to families.

JOB SUMMARY: The Community Education Coordinator will provide mandated reporter trainings and community education workshops to public and private schools including preschools, city programs, Head Start programs, nonprofit organizations, community groups and other programs upon request.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

● Schedule, plan and conduct Mandated Reporter Trainings (MRT) to organizations with staff working directly with children.

● Prepare Mandated Reporter packets for each participant and transport packets to training sites.

● Maintain records on each training activity.

● Provide evaluations to participants for feedback on trainings.

● Collect data and report monthly on trainings completed.

● Provide training certificates when requested by participants.

● Participate in the Train the Trainer (TOT) program offered by the Office of Child Abuse Prevention to be certified in the mandated reporter curriculum.

● Follow the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Law curriculum.

● Develop and maintain relationship with Children and Family Services (CFS) staff.

● Partner with CFS staff on MRT’s when appropriate.

● Schedule and manage volunteer groups for in-office projects.

● Keep up to date and informed on CA Legislation regarding the Child Abuse Reporting Act.

● Conduct outreach to organizations who would benefit from community education and or mandated reporter trainings.

● Attend community resource events throughout Contra Costa County upon request.

● Represent CAPC at Community Partnership meetings and other community meetings upon request.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

● 2-5 years of experience in the field of education, child welfare, advocacy or social services.

● 2-5 years of experience training adults.

● Demonstrate the ability to effectively relate to and communicate with youth and adults in an educational environment.

● Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with parents, teachers, school administrators, social service workers and community members.

● Demonstrate the ability to discuss sensitive topics with school staff, youth and community members

● Demonstrated experience in training small and large groups of people.

● Experience working with diverse group dynamics.

● Basic computer skills, word processing and internet research skills.

● Excellent public speaking and training skills.

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

● Ability to work some evenings and occasional weekends.

● Willing to travel countywide.

● Spanish speaking is a plus.

● Knowledge of community resources for children and families.

● Dependable transportation.

● Self-starter/ detail oriented.

● CA Driver’s License, vehicle insurance and background clearance.
