The Office is comprised of various academic and support departments, which work collaboratively to support student growth and progress in meeting or exceeding state standards for academic excellence.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Manager of Summer Bridge & Acceleration, the Part-Time/Temporary Summer Bridge Program Support role will assist the Summer Bridge Program team with managing requests and inquiries received through the Summer Assistance hotline. This part-time/temporary position will be compensated for time worked on an hourly basis. The work schedule for this role will consist of an estimated 20 hours per week for an anticipated period of ~4 months beginning May 2024, and ending August 2024. Due to the part-time/temporary nature of this work, this is not a benefit-eligible position. To be qualified for this role, the candidate must be a retired school administrator with valid ISBE licensure.

The Part-Time/Temporary Summer Bridge Program Support role will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

• Support inquiries of determination of the district's elementary summer promotion appeal process in alignment with the district’s elementary promotion policy resolution;
• Adhere to the Summer Bridge Assistance team flowchart and protocols;
• Coordinate all reviews and decision reports of submitted parental appeals;
• Act as the point of contact for parent and school inquiries, collecting necessary information, tracking inquiries, and providing all necessary stakeholders with resolutions to identified challenges;
• Support and collaborate with fellow Summer Bridge Program Support employees, sharing knowledge and resources to ensure access to necessary information when finding resolutions;
• Other duties as assigned

In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Part-Time/Temporary Summer Bridge Program Support role must possess the following qualifications:

Education Required:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required
• Valid teaching certificate issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) with Administrative endorsement is required.
• Master’s degree preferred

Experience Required:

• Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in the education field, including experience as a school administrator (principal or assistant principal), is required
• Experience working with diverse learners in an educational capacity is strongly preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Strong verbal and written communication skills (speaking - including presentations - listening, and writing)
• High levels of instructional expertise, integrity, honesty, credibility, and the courage to make difficult yet necessary decisions
• Effective strategic planning capabilities, including the ability to align/manage activities toward goal fulfillment
• Strong leadership and team building skills, e.g. ability to develop high-performing teams united around a clear vision for serving schools and achieving student success
• Ability to build collaborative relationships with a variety of constituent groups, including external partners, to ensure the entire system operates in the most effective manner possible to support schools and principals
• Ability to define problems, analyze data, and outline valid conclusions and action steps
• General working knowledge of CPS systems preferred
• Bilingual or multilingual capabilities (English and another language), preferred

Conditions of Employment

As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:

• Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
• Be Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19 - Unless approved for a medical or religious exemption, all employees are required to be up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations, including boosters, and to submit proof of vaccination to the district within 30 days of hire. “Up-to-date” on vaccination is defined as being at least two weeks past all primary vaccine doses and any applicable boosters.
