Chicago Public Schools CPS is Hiring a Reporting Manager, Office of Network Support Near Chicago, IL

The Office of Network Support (ONS) provides administrative support, strategic direction, and leadership development to the schools within each network while also driving critical support that help boost student learning.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Data Analytics, The Reporting Manager is primarily responsible for ensuring school and Network stakeholders have access to data reporting over the course of the year that is timely, accurate, and relevant as they engage with critical cycles of data inquiry around student and school outcomes. The Reporting Manager will work closely with the Director of Data Analytics to scope reporting projects, connect with stakeholders, define the need, determine report content and design, and deliver reporting. The Reporting Manager will also work closely with the Department of Information & Technology Services to ensure reporting is aligned with district definitions and executed using established quality assurance processes.
The Reporting Manager will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:
  • Design and execute on a Strategic Plan for data process improvement.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Data Analytics to organize and execute Network Strategist Professional Learning and onboarding.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Data Analytics to iteratively examine, evaluate, and develop reporting requirements for various stakeholder groups (e.g.; schools, Networks).
  • Develop a differentiated suite of reporting for audiences at the School, Network, and Central Office level.
  • Make reporting and data management decisions for the ONS Continuous Improvement team.
  • Make reporting and data management recommendations for the CEO Continuous Improvement team.
  • Manage all data needs related to the annual ONS-directed Network plans.
  • Manage and execute governance and quality assurance processes as they relate to report design and content.
  • Build, manage, document, and maintain queries through SAS and SQL Server.
  • Ensure report assets abide by FERPA, SOPA, and Chicago Public Schools guidelines regarding data security and privacy.
  • Gather and translate business requirements from district stakeholders into report designs.
  • Communicate reporting changes, enhancements, and modifications verbally or through written documentation to management and other team members
  • Develop, document, and maintain detailed query specifications and report inventory related to report content
  • Research, coordinate and complete special projects as necessary.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the Office of Network Support and the Department of Information & Technology Services to ensure reporting-relevant workstreams are synchronized between departments.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Reporting Manager must possess the following qualifications:
Education Required:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Preferred field of study: Computer Science, Business, Information Systems, or a related field of study
  • Master's degree preferred
Experience Required:
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience of progressively advanced professional experience in using data and reporting including the following, is required:
    • Minimum of two (2) years professional experience with cross-departmental project management, preferably on projects related to technology or data.
    • Minimum of three (3) years working with supervisory/management leadership role in a coaching or consultative role.
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience performing advanced calculations using MS Power BI Desktop ( Aggregate, Date, Logical, String, Table) is required
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience using SQL is required
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience developing visualization reports and dashboards is required
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience building out automated data validation and building in adequate controls to ensure ongoing data quality is required
  • Two (2) years of direct work experience in Business Intelligence and Analytics preferred
  • Three (3) years experience in Microsoft Power BI model and report development including Power Query and DAX development is preferred
  • Experience with education data, school data cycles, and school teaming structures is strongly preferred
  • Experience with CPS Dashboard, CPS Aspen, ciwp.cps.edu, and Branching Minds, CPS schools, and CPS metrics is strongly preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of data warehousing
  • Understanding of star-schema data modeling
  • Excellent report writing, analytical and project management skills, with excellent attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills; speaking, listening, and writing
Conditions of Employment
As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:
  • Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
  • Be Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19 - Unless approved for a medical or religious exemption, all employees are required to be up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations, including boosters, and to submit proof of vaccination to the district within 30 days of hire. "Up-to-date" on vaccination is defined as being at least two weeks past all primary vaccine doses and any applicable boosters
