The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is seeking to hire a full-time employee at the Associate, Planner, or Senior level in the Planning Department. We are interested in applicants with a general planning or public administration background; however, we are particularly interested in applicants with experience and/or interest in economic development planning, housing planning, or bike and pedestrian planning (including the Americans with Disabilities Act planning (ADA)).
Position Description
Successful candidates would be part of a large department and provide technical and professional support for CMAP’s long-range comprehensive regional plan, technical assistance programs, research, data analysis, and mapping work and other activities as assigned to contribute to the agency’s long-range and local planning efforts.
Technical assistance projects may include long-range land use planning, transportation planning, zoning, housing planning, local economic development, supporting municipal grant readiness, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) self-evaluations and transition plans, providing plan implementation support for partners, and similar planning activities.
Work is typically performed under the supervision of a Program Manager/Principal. This position requires travel throughout the region and candidates must have the ability and willingness to work with communities across the region.
Education and/or Experience Qualifications
Required is a Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or related field such as geography, architecture, sociology, public administration, public policy, or environmental science, and the following.
Preferred is a master’s degree in Planning, Public Policy, or a related discipline. Multilingual preferred. AICP is also preferred.
