A Day in the Life of a Patient Access Manager:

Provides leadership and guidance to admissions staff on a daily basis. Assists the Patient Access Director in planning, coordinating, and directing the daily operations of the Patient Access Pre-Registration and Registration processes for all hospital registration locations and achieving high customer satisfaction levels. Provides backup to the Patient Access Director in their absence.

 Here Is What You Will Be Doing:

  • Manages the daily activities of the patient access information desk, pre-registration and admitting/registration areas (Emergency Department, Main, Lab, Cancer Center, and various Hospital Outpatient Departments) and is accessible for employees' questions and problems.
  • Reviews employee adherence to standard work/processes and ensures Real Time Eligibility, work queue completion, cash collection of co-payments and co-insurance, patient self-pay estimates and completed accurately and timely within the registration process.
  • Employs the basics of sound management (i.e., planning, mentoring, organization and follow-up) in the day-to-day operations of the area(s) with the assistance of the Revenue Cycle Trainer.
  • Works collaboratively with the Business Office to assure that all avenues of medical coverage are valid, assists with audits and denials, Red Flag rules and policies are updated and adhered to, and ensuring correct information is documented in the business record for each patient.
  • Conducts hiring, timekeeping, disciplinary action, evaluations, department budget, operational reports to leadership, and is overall responsible for the scheduling of employees to meet hospital requirements organizational needs. 
  • Maintains regulatory compliance of processes and procedures within registration and up-to date on changes that impact the organization. 
  • Prior to surgery or scheduled inpatient stay, ensures that pre-registration calls are made to verify coverage and exclusions and collaborates with Pre-Authorization and Financial Navigators to ensure proper payment source is determined and collected at time of service based on organizational policy. 
  • Maintains/enhances Lean methodologies within the department and throughout the organization to include Lean Daily Management Huddles, Process Improvement Projects, and various automation tools to facilitate patient needs, decrease cost, and improve the organization

  • Ability to implement and maintain Lean Daily Management skills within the department

Here Is What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher or equivalent education and/or job-related experience
  • Four (4) or more years of experience in patient admissions
  • One (1) or more years of experience in a leadership or training role related to Patient Access or Hospital Billing.

 Nice to Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare related field
  • Experience relating to medical insurance or medical terminology
  • Previous hospital admissions and supervisory experience
