Classical High School Math/Science Teacher | Full or Part Time
Chesterton Academy of St. Joseph, a joyful classical high school, rooted in the Catholic faith, seeks a talented and dynamic full-time Math/Science teacher to join our team starting in the 2024-25 academic year. Part time options may also be available.
The Chesterton Academy of St. Joseph: Joining the Chesterton School's Network, the Chesterton Academy of St. Joseph will begin its third year in the Fall of 2024. It is the result of local families and educators working to found a devoted high school built upon intentional community, Catholic tradition and the sacraments in Dayton, OH.
The Role and Expectations: The ideal candidate will be willing to teach Geometry, Algebra I/II, Precalculus, and/or Calculus and will be able to teach some of the following subjects: Physical Science, Chemistry, Physics. A bachelor's or master's degree is required. Given the integrated aspect of our curriculum there may also be opportunities for cross-curricular teaching in humanities. Three to five years of teaching experience is preferred, as well as experience in and passion for Catholic classical education. The ideal candidate will have an understanding and appreciation of an integrated curriculum which allows for the connection between the humanities and the arts/sciences. He/she will be familiar with teaching in the Socratic method.
The candidate must be a practicing Catholic able to actively mentor the students in the faith, and willing to take the Oath of Fidelity to the Magisterium. Candidates must demonstrate excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills, classroom management and should possess a track record of contributing to the vision and mission of an apostolic and educational enterprise.
In addition to their teaching responsibilities, faculty at Chesterton Academy participate in the House system, which is designed to promote character and virtue, and to help students grow in holiness. Faculty members are required to attend daily Mass with the entire student body, and assist in leading spiritual retreats and school activities.
