Chesterfield County is Hiring a Registered Nurse Near Chesterfield, VA

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
We know you: you’re compassionate, enjoy working with kids, and understand that with dedication, humility, and sincerity, you can make a difference in the lives of at-risk youth.
Serving At-Risk Youth: Ensuring time with us is rare, fair, and beneficial.
The Chesterfield Juvenile Detention Home is hiring a Registered Nurse to provide general medical care to court-involved youth. This position will work Monday through Friday - this will include 3 evenings until 9pm – one of which must be Wednesday; while the remainder of the schedule can be discussed or negotiated. You will have fixed county holidays off. While there will be times when you are the only medical professional on-site, you are never alone as there are always other staff members in the building to provide safety and security.
What You Do and How You Do It:
You will be working directly with residents in a secure environment. Our residents need compassionate care while in our custody. They will be provided with an initial physical assessment upon arrival to include a medical history as well as allergies, chronic health problems, drug abuse, and other pertinent information. The nurse will consult with doctors and other professionals regarding the child’s physical and emotional problems. Appointments will be made when necessary and medication will be set up and dispensed. This position requires the application of first aid measures for minor injuries and illnesses. Sick call is provided three times per day to address any medical issues or illnesses that arise throughout the day. Additionally, the nurse will contact the parents or legal guardians to document health insurance information as well as request medication refills. Perform other work as required.
Here’s What You Need:
Diploma from an approved nursing program, or an associate’s degree in nursing; bachelor’s degree preferred; two years of experience working as a registered nurse; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must possess a current unrestricted Registered Nurse License by the state of Virginia. Pediatric experience is desired. Must pass a Virginia Central Registry check. You’ll also need:
  • Thorough knowledge of general nursing and nursing methods
  • Sympathetic understanding of maladjusted children
  • Ability to act independently and make sound medical decisions
  • Superior interpersonal skills
  • Professional maturity
  • A calm, empathetic, and consistent demeanor
  • The ability to communicate clearly, tactfully, and efficiently, both orally and in writing
  • Receptivity to constructive feedback
  • The ability to remain calm, problem-solve, and make decisions in stressful situations
The hourly rate is $33.32 - $39.15.
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Real Talk
We’ll be honest-you will have hard days in this job. The youth we serve have had difficult lives and have experienced various forms of trauma. Some residents may complain daily of minor medical issues, not because they have them, but because it results in attention they haven’t received outside our facility. The residents you serve may not thank you for the job you do. You may not get to see the long-term impact you’ve had on residents. We understand this job is not for everyone, but if you have a passion for kids and are committed to making a positive difference in their lives, this job is for you and we want you on our team.Approximately 8 - 16 hours/week; includes weekends, evenings and holidaysJuvenile Detention Home
