High school diploma or GED; three years of college coursework and/or related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience, preferably including some supervisory and/or recreation program planning experience. Knowledge of objectives and principles of public recreation program planning. Ability to plan and organize programs. Must have the ability to interact with a variety of people with diverse backgrounds and varying ages. Ability to supervise staff. Some knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of community recreation; knowledge of general recreation leadership methods and good leadership skills; knowledge of techniques and/or tools used in general or specialized recreation program area; working knowledge of first aid methods and necessary safety precautions necessary for recreation work; good organizational skills; ability to stimulate interest in and appreciation for the various aspects of the activities; ability to deal effectively with groups and to maintain discipline and/or control; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to supervise; ability to meet and deal tactfully with the public; ability to maintain accurate records and to prepare reports. Must be willing to work outside normal work hours, when necessary, which may include evenings and weekends. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required.
Shift varies with flexible hours between 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Shift is primarily 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Thursday (during the summer) and 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Friday.
