Chesterfield County Public Schools is Hiring a Substitute Instructional Assistant 2023-2024 Near Chesterfield, VA

Provides support services for teachers and administrators during the school year. Performs routine clerical and/or instructional assignments within established procedures and standard practices. Tasks performed are outlined in oral and written instructions. Contacts are made within and outside of the school and may require the handling of sensitive information or dealing tactfully with teachers and staff. Some judgement is required. Each position will have a specific set of work assignments particular to meeting the needs of the students or department being served. 

Instructional support positions include:

  • Instructional Assistant - General Education - $86.04 per day

  • Instructional Assistant - General Education (IA Pre-K, IA VPI, IA Head Start)- $107.55 per day

  • Instructional Assistant - Special Education - $93.21 per day

  • Tutor Monitor - $93.21  per day 

  • Essential Job Functions:

    • Assists teachers with classroom duties, including providing small group instruction as directed by the teacher.

    • Assists students with academic subjects; one-to-one, small group, or whole class support.

    • Prepares and reproduces classroom materials; assists with bulletin boards and displays.

    • Assists students on and off the school bus; supervises students at lunch and may need to assist with supervision in the library, computer lab, classroom, and playground, depending on circumstances.

    • Assists in classroom as assigned and as needed.

    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Copy machines, fax machines, computer, workroom equipment.

    Physical Demands:

    The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel objects, printed materials and/or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, and kneel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

    Work Environment:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a public school setting. The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    Some knowledge of childhood growth and development, behavior management techniques and clerical procedures. Some knowledge of general academic subjects sufficient to teach others. Demonstrated ability to supervise children in the absence of a supervisor. Demonstrated ability to perform basic clerical tasks, communicate effectively orally and in writing, and ability to follow oral and written instructions. Demonstrated ability to work well with students, staff, and parents in a professional manner.

High School diploma, training, or experience sufficient to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
