Essential Job Functions:
Plan, design and provide professional development opportunities to school division personnel regarding requirements and best practices for special education and Section 504.
Provide support to school administration, as needed, to improve performance of school-based staff working with students with disabilities.
Serve as a resource to school division personnel regarding best practices for students with disabilities.
Support school based and division level teams in managing complex processes and procedures.
Attend student-specific meetings as needed to provide support to school-based staff.
Assist the Compliance Specialist in the development, maintenance and dissemination of procedures and resources related to special education and Section 504.
Assist the Compliance Specialist in efforts to promote effective resolution of disagreements.
Assist the Compliance Specialist in dispute resolution processes including mediation, grievance procedures, state complaints, Office of Civil Rights (OCR) complaints and due process hearings.
Assist in the collection and submission of data for the state performance plan.
Assist in periodic data collection and analysis required for Chesterfield County Public Schools and Virginia Department of Education reports.
Interprets School Board policy, procedure and guidelines. Ensures compliance with existing applicable federal and state statute, policy and guidelines related to public and private day schools and in particular the operation of special education programs.
Performs other duties as required.
Report Preparation:
Prepares reports in accordance with job responsibilities.
Equipment Operation:
Use of computer and presentation technology, general office equipment and other specific equipment related to assigned areas.
Contacts:
Contact with all levels of CCPS personnel and various outside agencies.

May provide input or recommendations related to policy changes.

Frequent walking, standing, light lifting up to 25 pounds. Physical agility to drive, bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.
Work Environment:
Duties performed mainly in an office setting. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
Comprehensive knowledge and application of special education and 504 policy, procedures, regulations and law. Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply regulations. Considerable knowledge of instructional strategies for diverse learners and students with disabilities. Working skill in the use of technology to support job functions, including proficient use of Google, Microsoft Office and Web Applications preferred. Working use of web-based resources for professional development and communication such as Edmodo and Google Docs preferred. Demonstrated ability to listen and communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to effectively work with individuals and groups. Demonstrated ability in effective presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex programs and activities and to organize, schedule and train staff.. Demonstrated ability in decision-making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, program management and long range planning.Must hold a valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in at least one special education area. A valid Postgraduate Professional license with an endorsement in Administration and Leadership are preferred. Three to five years successful teaching experience in Special Education required. Bachelor’s Degree Required, Masters Degree Preferred. Prior experience in a role that demonstrates progressively higher responsibility is strongly preferred.
