Provides educational assessments of students referred to the child study committee including classroom observations and the administration of diagnostic tests. Work is performed under general supervision within specific program objectives and policies. The employee communicates and coordinates with others to ensure program effectiveness. Daily contacts are made with instructional and administrative personnel as well as persons and resource personnel outside of the school system.

Prepares detailed reports, outlining the various levels of academic attainment achieved by each individual student assessed.
Equipment Operation:
Uses standard office equipment and equipment related to educational area.
Contacts:
Contact with all levels of CCPS personnel, parents, guardians and various outside agencies to obtain information and to communicate diagnostic findings.

Physical Demands:
Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear, understand speech and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly at normal levels indoors and on the telephone. Frequent walking, standing, light lifting up to 25 pounds, and other limited physical activities are required. Occasional travel with students may be necessary.
Work Environment:
Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classroom; gym, cafeteria; auditorium; and recreational areas.
Considerable knowledge in all areas of exceptionalities including SLD, ID, ED, DD, OHI, Autism and others; of federal, state and local regulations and of current instructional strategies. Working knowledge of the Standards of Learning and educational content in Virginia Public Schools. Demonstrated ability to interpret and report assessment results. Demonstrated ability to administer and interpret diagnostic, nationally normed measures and in the identification of learning aptitudes. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability in individual and group decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution and the ability to collaborate with other therapeutic and instructional personnel.
Must hold a valid Postgraduate professional license with an endorsement in at least one special education content area. One to three years successful teaching experience is required. Three to five years of successful teaching preferred. Prior training or experience in diagnostic testing is strongly preferred.
