Chesapeake Bay Academy is Hiring a Middle School Science Teacher (Grades 6-8) Near Virginia, VA

The ideal candidate will be a creative, engaging, and innovative educator that has a strong passion for the content, knowledge of middle school curriculum, and a deep interest in supporting unique learners. Instruction should have a hands-on focus to meet the varied learning styles of our students. The position requires a bachelor’s degree in an approved program for general curriculum science licensure. Must have or be eligible for teacher licensure in Virginia.

This position reports to the Middle School Division Director.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Research and create lessons to complement/supplement the curriculum and student needs.
  • Select appropriate instructional resources to enhance student learning experiences.
  • Design multisensory curriculum.
  • Use relevant technology to support instruction; embrace and seek out new technology or other tools to enhance the quality of education.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Differentiate instruction to help each student achieve curricular objectives.
  • Develop strong relationships with students and collaborative relationships with their families.
  • Be a life-long learner who reflects on his/her work and regularly seeks feedback to improve teaching practice.
  • Track and assess student academic progress.
  • Provide students with regular feedback on their growth and progress throughout the year.
  • Encourage each student to develop and fulfill their academic as well as social and emotional potential.
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students.
  • Work with and assign tasks to teaching assistants.
  • Participate in weekly divisional faculty meetings.
  • Work as a team member on cross-curricular, whole division, and multi-divisional projects such as curriculum development.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with all community members including administrators, fellow teachers, students, parents, and non-CBA professionals.
  • Serve as a student advocate; assist students with organization and goal-setting; communicate weekly with parents.
  • Conduct parent conferences, and other meeting as needed, to discuss student’s progress and determine priorities for their children and their individualized educational needs.
  • Assist in the collection of data for providing appropriate classroom interventions.
  • Maintain professional competence by participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and other professional opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Must be eligible for teacher licensure in Virginia.
  • Requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in an approved program for general curriculum science.
  • Computer literate and technologically proficient in educational technology.
  • Highly organized and independently motivated.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the teaching team.
  • Previous teaching experience preferred.
