Facilities Maintenance Manager 

JOB SUMMARY 

The Facilities Manager provides oversight and direction for the maintenance & repair of a wide range of office structures, metal buildings, pole barns and farm roads on a 1200 acre farm. The Facility Manager receives requests from various department leaders for repairs or new builds. The Facility Manager will plan, prioritize, organize and distribute work schedules to complete all work activities as required. Prepares budgets on new construction projects or repairs. Design & Implements a strict preventative maintenance regime for each structure and road system. Directly supervise all work being performed both by inside crews and independent contractors to ensure both quality and safety standards are being followed. Coordinates with vendors and independent contractors and requests bids. Facility Manager is also responsible for the set up and take down of company events and festivals. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Oversee the repair and maintenance of all facilities including:
    • 5 Office Buildings, 1 loading dock, 1 16,000 sqft employee housing unit, 2 greenhouses, 3 rental houses, numerous pole barns, pump stations, and various other agricultural structures
  • Build, repair and maintenance activities include:
    • Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, Roofing, Drywall, Painting, New Construction, & Sitework
  • Develop and implement a rigid preventative maintenance regime for all infrastructures and components.
  • Manage cleaning and pest subcontractors
  • Receive, sort, and prioritize facility-related requests from various departments and communicate the project status to the requester.
  • Schedule all maintenance repairs of buildings or grounds (mowing common areas).
  • Troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain electrical components.
  • Design, plan, budget and implement new construction of infrastructures.
  • Managing farm roads & stormwater runoff to reduce washouts and safety hazards 
  • Utilize heavy machinery as required (skidsteer, grader, frontend loader, tractor, backhoe, etc…)
  • Provide for the safety and security of facilities.
  • Plan and coordinate daily work assignments.
  • Supervise a team of 5 employees (3 handymen, 2 equipment operators) 
  • Develop staff through coaching, counseling, disciplinary and motivational techniques. Evaluate employee performance.
  • Coordinate and conduct safety meetings.
  • All other duties assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Must be a good planner and excellent communicator…Facilities is a support department for a large farming operation and receives multiple requests with varying degrees of urgency and priorities.
  • Must be even tempered and able to work well with others.
  • Minimum of five or more years of applied experience in construction, maintenance, repair and support, and facilities management preferably in nursery, farm, agricultural or garden services.
  • Two or more years in a management position with applied supervisory skills.
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent preferred. College, technical or vocational training is desirable.
  • Electrical experience, education, and/or license are a must.
  • Specialized skills in building repairs and stormwater management.
  • Highly organized, computer literate, demonstrate self-initiative, and take pride in quality production.
  • Demonstrate organizational and planning skills, effective time management.
  • Ability to operate various kinds of farm equipment including tractors, loaders, and skid steer.
  • Computer skills (google or microsoft office suit, email, spreadsheets, etc…)
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean MVR driving record

HOURS OF WORK 

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Regular strenuous lifting, bending and stretching.
  • Lift and transfer objects up to and over 50 lbs regularly.
  • Able to sit, stand, bend and walk for long periods of time during the day and night.
  • Able to drive and operate farm vehicles such as tractors, loaders, skid steers, and other heavy equipment.
  • Exposure to outside climate, including extreme heat and cold conditions.
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to effectively use small hand tools, power tools, & equipment.
