Overview of Job

The Lead Dental Assistant provides The Lead Dental Assistant, under the general direction and supervision of the Operations Manager, will provide oversight to the daily operations of the Dental Assistants. As a leader in this organization, all comments, attitudes, actions, and behaviors have a direct effect on the practice and perception of quality service. 

Primary Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Oversight of Dental Assistant duties.
  • Training of new Dental Assistants in conjunction with Dental Services Manager.
  • Maintain a Training Manual up to date.
  •  With support from the Operations Manager, the Lead Dental Assistant will be responsible to complete bi-annual and annual performance reviews of Dental Assistants.
  • Ensure awareness of, and compliance with, all Quality Assurance metrics as relevant and applicable to Dental Assistants.
  • Responsible for reviewing procedures as assigned or as needed by Operations Manager to help maintain safe and clean patient care environment.
  • Work alongside Operations and Dental Director to develop and implement any new and/or ongoing team trainings.
  • Inspects patient’s oral cavity and charts lesions, existing restorations, and missing teeth.
  • Monitors incoming and outgoing lab cases.
  • In addition to these duties, expanded function dental assistant tasks may be required based on specific state guidelines.
  • Maintaining stock inventory and placing semimonthly orders for needed dental supplies. Being aware of monthly supply budgets and working to keep clinical supply expenses in line with budget.
  • Maintaining equipment and handpiece repair logs.
  • Completing weekly, monthly, and/or quarterly cleaning and maintenance of dental equipment.
  • Infection control officer: working with Operations Leader to complete monthly compliance checklists and maintain Compliance Binder, UQ portal, and MSDS portal.
  • Working with Operations Leader to complete dental assistant staffing schedules.
  • Involved in onboarding and training of new dental assistants.
  • Working with Regional Clinical Leader on rolling out clinical initiatives and ensuring dental assistants are following those processes.
  • Efficiently work with Dr’s, other dental assistants, and hygienists in the clinic to ensure efficient patient flow according to the schedule demands and walk ins. They are to act as “traffic control” of patient flow and assist the Dr’s in guiding them to ensure proper flow in the clinic.
  • Should also include that the lead assistant is to ensure that all lab cases are ready and pulled for the following day schedule.
  • The lead assistant is to ensure proper dental assistant coverage in the office on specialist days and/or to cover vacations.

Requirements

Education and Training

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3-year related experience and /or training; or equivalent of combination of education and experience in the dental profession.
  • Valid X-ray certificate.
  • Current license if CDA, RDA, or EFDA (per state requirements)
  • CPR & first aid certificate.
