Chemring Sensors and Electronic Systems is Hiring a Controller Near Charlotte, NC

Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Controller, reporting directly to the VP, Finance, will be responsible for managing and overseeing all facets of the accounting operations including the monthly close cycle, financial reporting, internal controls and policy development/implementation/compliance. The Controller will assist the VP, Finance in implementing reporting and process improvement initiatives across the company with a focus on driving compliance; improving financial performance; providing quality management information; and furthering the development of scalable accounting systems and processes, analytical tools and key performance indicators. Must be able to collaborate and communicate across all functional areas of the business constructively and efficiently within a manufacturing environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

  • Lead the company’s accounting function with an emphasis on compliance, performance improvement and providing accurate, relevant, and timely information
  • Safeguard assets and assure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal audits, controls and checks across all departments 
  • Establish, implement, and monitor appropriate internal controls and policies to ensure conformance and compliance with accounting standards (U.S. GAAP and IFRS), internal policies (Operational Framework) and other statutory requirements
  • Lead the month-end close process. Document and maintain complete and accurate supporting documentation for all financial transactions
  • Work directly with various business and functional leaders to educate and support them in developing their strategic plans budgets and forecasts
  • Participate in periodic reviews and annual year-end audit process with external auditors. Recommend corrective actions and implement improvements when necessary
  • Analyze and report on Program Revenue, Cost and Margin to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Analysis to include identification and communication of program overages in terms of price/volume of labor and material by contract line item, as applicable
  • Provide reporting and participate in customer program meetings and reviews
  • Generate and manage billing with customers including direct to customer and WAWF submission and tracking
  • Direct interface with DCMA and DCAA for related requirements including audits, disclosure statement updates, impact analysis, rate updates and incurred cost submissions
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly and Board of Directors financial presentations
  • All employees are expected to be in compliance with all government and corporate laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned

Requirements

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or related business discipline
  • Active CPA and/or MBA

EXPERIENCE

  • 8 years of relevant Finance and Accounting experience with increasing levels of responsibility, including 2 years as Sr. / Lead Accountant in a Government Contracting environment
  • Track record of implementing robust financial routines and controls, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with Microsoft D365 and related financial system and query tool capabilities preferred
  • Experience developing forward pricing rates and Incurred Cost Submissions

SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be eligible to obtain and/or maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance commensurate with the level of facility clearance
  • Acute attention to detail, accuracy and accountability balanced with sound business judgment
  • Effective understanding, analysis and reporting of key metrics
  • Excellent process and documentation skills
  • Self-starter with a high sense of urgency and ability to prioritize 
  • Ability and willingness to mentor and teach early career general accounting personnel
  • Capable of independent analysis with strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to multi-task and deal effectively with ambiguity and tight deadlines
  • Must be a team-player with experience in a cross-functional environment
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems and databases
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite; highly proficient in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills

PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects, weighing up to 10 pounds occasionally and/or a negligible amount of weight frequently. Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Use of computer.
