The Opportunity

Chelsea Piers is seeking part-time Lifeguards to join our team. Safety is our top priority and our Lifeguards are essential in holding up that standard in our Aquatics Center. As part of our Lifeguard team, you will be responsible for ensuring that our patrons are following all safety measures when using our Olympic Pool and Splash Zone. You will also be expected to monitor your area at all times to scan for any dangerous situations such as drowning, injuries, etc. We provide on-site training through the American Red Cross. However, it is a plus if you are already a certified Lifeguard and/or have previous experience. As a Lifeguard, you may also be assigned some operational duties to maintain pool standards and cleanliness. Qualified applicants may also have opportunities to instruct Swim Classes if desired with a potential of full-time work with benefits.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain consistent surveillance of patrons in the facility
  • Act with immediate and appropriate protocol to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency.
  • Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services
  • Execute proper surveillance and rescue techniques when needed
  • Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service
  • Assist with the Front Desk station as needed including but not limited to checking in members, answering phone calls and directing questions to the appropriate staff
  • Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
  • Entering the water to assist with pool maintenance or pool orientation adjustment
  • Maintaining the pool decks cleanliness via various cleaning techniques
  • Assisting patrons with lane assignments, reservations, and general lap swim etiquette

Key Performance/Evaluation Factors:

  • Ability and willingness to achieve and maintain an active ILTP certification through Ellis and Associates (training provided)
  • Participate in a required minimum amount of in- service training each month as set by Aquatics Management
  • Participating in lifeguard training and on-the-spot evaluations and if necessary remediation based on Directors discretion
  • Maintain all ILTP/CARMP skills at a test ready standard at all times and preform within Ellis ILTP/CARMP standards

Qualifications


Qualifications

  • Must be willing and able to complete a standard swim evaluation including a continuous 200 yard swim, two minutes of treading without the use of hands, and a retrieval of a 10lb weight at the bottom of the pool without the use of goggles
  • Must be prepared to lift objects as heavy as 55lbs
