Financial Institutions routinely use models (Statistical/Machine Learning models) for a broad range of activities including credit underwriting, valuing financial instruments, measuring and managing risks, assessing the adequacy of reserves and capital resources, and many other applications.

The Consumer and Community Banking (CCB) Risk Modeling team supports multiple lines of business within CCB including Card, Auto and Business Banking. Model Risk arises from the potential adverse consequences of making decisions based on incorrect or misused model outputs and reports, leading to financial loss, poor business decision making, or reputational damage. As the Model Risk Control Manager, you will be responsible for leading a team of control managers to evaluate and mitigate risks associated with Models used across the Consumer and Community Banking Risk Management organization. The Team partners closely with Senior and Executive Leadership, Business Control Management, Legal, Compliance and Technology as well as other cross functional partners within the Firm. This role will be a highly visible one and will entail interaction with senior leadership across the CCB and RM&C organization. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversight and management of the Control and Operational Risk Evaluation (CORE) Program for CCB Risk Management Models
  • Partner effectively with the business and functional colleagues to guide consistent and rigorous operational risk management practices, including risk committees, risk & control assessments, risk acceptances, operational risk/loss management reporting, and related action plans. 
  • Manage a team responsible for the control environment for CCB Risk Models, including execution of control evaluation, issue management and audit and exam management.
  • Responsible for communicating the status of the control environment for CCB Risk Modeling related to upcoming internal audits and regulatory engagements.
  • In partnership with the audit/compliance assessment team, provide substantive guidance/advice to business partners during all phases of internal and external exams regarding deliverables and potential issues. 
  • Enable issue self-identifications, assist in the development of Action Plans, and manage issues and Action Plans for CCB Risk Modeling processes.
  • Take initiative and independently manages complex projects and apply advanced knowledge of modeling risk and controls to strengthen processes. 
  • Critically evaluate, interpret and synthesize results to identify and summarize risk themes, in addition to preparation for senior management reporting for control functions and Risk Committee as appropriate.
  • Stay abreast of pertinent industry practices, skills and regulatory concerns.
  • Identify best practices and improvements to CCB Risk Modeling Controls.

 Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Professional experience must include at least 10 recent years of applicable business and management level experience. Risk and Control or other related experience required: in banking or financial services industry 
  • Strong and up-to-date knowledge and understanding of modeling solutions
  • Strong leadership skills with proven ability to influence change and communicate with diverse stakeholders 
  • Strong project management and process skills; ability to prioritize and execute on multiple, simultaneous, complex priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including advising senior management of risks, challenges and potential solutions.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Innovative thinker who is able to effectively develop and communicate new ideas
