Description

We are hiring a cleared Cabling Technician to support Outside Plant (OSP) cabling for a U.S. Army NEC in Ft. Huachuca, Az.

The Cabling Technician will play a pivotal role in ensuring the robustness of the Army NEC's OSP telecommunications and network infrastructure. This role requires a hands-on professional who can oversee and maintain the extensive OSP cabling system, ensuring optimal performance and reliability. 

Key Responsibilities:  

  1. Cabling Management: Install, move, maintain, and remove various types of cables, including copper, coaxial, underground buried, aerial, and fiber optic cable and transmission systems equipment. 
  2. Restoration Services: Swiftly address and restore transmission services, focusing on critical circuits such as safety and security. 
  3. Equipment Mastery: Efficiently manage and maintain a range of testing equipment, ensuring their optimal performance for various cable types. 
  4. Infrastructure Maintenance: Oversee the upkeep and repair of various infrastructural components like pedestals and maintenance holes, ensuring they are free of defects and external hazards. 
  5. Documentation: Maintain accurate butterfly drawings, identifying all cabling types, and ensure all records associated with cable locates are updated. 
  6. Site Extensions: Manage the extension of the main telecommunications backbone, including additional communication points and local loop extensions. 
  7. Circuit Support: Oversee the cabling distribution for various circuits including SIPR, NIPR, DSN, VTC, and VOIP/VoSIP. 
  8. Audits: Conduct comprehensive audits of the existing cable plant, ensuring all documentation is accurate and up-to-date. 
  9. Site Surveys: Assess work requests through detailed site surveys, determining the availability of facilities and equipment, and providing cost and completion estimates. 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree coupled with 3 years of hands-on experience in cabling. (An additional 2 years of experience can be considered in lieu of a degree.) 
  • Active certifications: BICSI Installer II (copper) and BICSI Installer II (Fiber). 
  • Valid license to operate heavy machinery, such as digger derricks, bucket trucks, backhoes, and trenching equipment. 
  • Familiarity with regulatory guidance, such as USAISEC. 
  • Must possess an active DoD Secret clearance.

  • Previous experience at an Army NEC or with U.S. military systems.
