GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The visual art classroom teacher is responsible for teaching artistic and social skills to students at the elementary school level, providing instruction, and managing the learning environment. This position can look a variety of ways based on the applicant's background and student interest. The position reports to the Principal.

ESSENTIAL TASKS:

• Maintain the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.
• Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
• Provide guidance and leadership in the development of middle school music instruction.
• Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students.
• Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
• Create lesson plans and materials for class activities following curriculum guidelines or requirements of states and schools.
• Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems
• Communicate in a professional manner.
• Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, parents, and staff to enhance the instructional environment; participate in parent-teacher and faculty meetings and events.
• Adhere to the established policies and regulations of the School Board.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or administrator.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge or familiarity with the subject(s) to be taught; knowledge of the principles and methodologies of effective teaching.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential tasks.)

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher with Professional Indiana Teaching License or Charter School License.
• High competencies in classroom management.
• Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
• Skilled with technology and education platforms/software
• Current First Aid and CPR certification
• Be eligible to work in the United States.
