Charter School Business Management is Hiring a Remote Nonprofit Assistant Controller III - San Antonio

The Nonprofit Assistant Controller will be assigned to work with a variety of clients from both charter schools and non-profit organizations. Therole serves as theNonprofit Assistant Controllerand external client lead and requiresstrong communication skills, project management skills, knowledge of accrual and cash-based accounting, and the ability to partner with key stakeholders. The Nonprofit Assistant Controlleroversees all aspects of the finances for a portfolio of clients. In this consulting role, the Nonprofit Assistant Controller regularly exercises independent judgment on client financial matters.

Although the scope of work is different for every client, the Nonprofit Assistant Controller will be responsible for Accounting, Finance, Team Performance, and Client Consulting activities as well as Controller level tasks, and other tasks and duties outlined below.

Your Duties

1) Accounting

Audit

    • Act as a liaison between client and audit firm
    • Oversee preparation of audit packages
    • Perform quality review and finalize audit packages before release
    • Implement audit findings.

2) Finance

Analysis and Reporting

    • Report on the current financial status to client leadership.
    • Review and finalize annual budget and recommendations
    • Review and finalize financial reports.

3) Team Performance

    • Ensure deliverables are executed to the scope of work.
    • Manage staffing needs for client portfolio.
    • Serve as the point of escalation and resolution for the client team.
    • Escalate changes in organizational leadership, the scope of work, and financial trends to the department leadership.

4) Client Consulting

    • Manage multiple clients virtually.
    • Engage and consult with client leadership on financial strategies and initiatives.
    • Monitor and track financial goals for trends.
    • Present results of the financial analysis and make recommendations to client leadership and key stakeholders.
    • Participate and present at Board meetings.
    • Serve as the point of escalation and resolution for managers on services and delivery issues.

Your Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 8 years of accounting, financial reporting, and financial management experience.
  • 3 years prior experience managing and prioritizing the work of direct reports or project team members.
  • Prior experience working in a non-profit organization required.
  • Prior experience working in a school or socially responsible organization is required.
  • Prior management of multiple projects and clients is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.

You Should Know:

  • Microsoft Office 365
  • Proficient in Excel, Anybill.com
  • QuickBooks, Intacct, FundEZ, or similar accounting software
  • Payroll Management Software (ADP, Paychex, or similar)

Your Competencies / Skills:

These competencies are specific to the Nonprofit Assistant Controller role and need to be demonstrated to achieve performance goals.

  • Consulting -Develop strategic relationships in support of project development/implementation, helping the client to define their needs and seeking feedback on client satisfaction.
  • Critical Thinking – Make decisions and solve problems using sound inclusive reasoning and judgment. Gather and analyze information from a diverse set of sources and individuals to fully understand a problem. Proactively anticipate needs and prioritize action steps. Accurately summarize and interpret and effectively communicate actions and rationale.
  • Decision making - Take responsibility and demonstrate commitment to appropriate decisions promptly. Ensure that decisions are made based on policies, best practices, and organizational directives to solve emerging problems.
  • Team Performance -Ensure communication is ongoing, client deliverables are met, manage team performance, and provide constructive feedback and development opportunities.
  • Delegation- Assign tasks, responsibilities, and accountability to the right team members taking their skills, experience, and capabilities into account. Set clear and reasonable expectations, hold the team member accountable, and follow up on the execution of work.
  • Project Management –Manage and align stakeholder expectations, develop a project plan with roles and assignments, identify and prioritize issues related to project deliverables, and implement solutions to remove barriers.
  • Team Management- Acts as a team player and supports the learning of others, showing appreciation for others' contributions, and proactively stepping into coworkers’ tasks to help when needed.Employ personal strengths, knowledge, and talents to complement those of others. Exercise the ability to compromise and be adaptable. Collaborate with others to achieve common goals. Build strong, positive working relationships with team members.
