Charter One is Hiring a Board Liaison Near Wake Forest, NC

Charter One works with schools across the country to provide all-inclusive education management services. At Charter One we pride ourselves on our thorough knowledge of charter school operations, academics, finance, human resources, information technology, marketing, board relationships, and more. Charter One supports Boards of Directors in the efficient management of the school to help ensure that the vision and mission are met with full compliance to state laws, policies, and the charter agreement.

Charter One is currently accepting applications for a Board Liaison / Board Relations Coordinator for the Southeast Region. This position would work out of our district office in Raleigh, NC.

Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining a board relations calendar
  • Develop and foster positive relationships with board members
  • Updates Board policies, bylaws, handbooks, etc. annually or as needed
  • Facilitates responsive, accurate, proactive, and collaborative communication with the Department Heads
  • Serves as the Board liaison with high-level administrative tasks, which include meeting logistics, agenda development, scheduling, delivering of informationpackets, and ensuring all aspects of Board Meeting Compliance align with state statute.
  • Attends all Board meetings and ensures that Board minutes are transcribed to official Board records and that all official Board records are maintained and properly secured.
  • Assists with the design and implementation of internal reports; development of presentations; the scheduling of travel arrangements; and the preparation of documentation for reimbursement (travel vouchers, mileage reports).
  • Manages sensitive and confidential data and information
  • Working hours may include evenings, holidays or weekends depending on deadline requirements and special events.
  • Completes duties and responsibilities in compliance with state standards, policies and guidelines
  • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing; defines problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draws valid conclusions; and effectively presents information to top management, public groups, and other groups, as needed.
  • Has a working knowledge of or is willing to learn Robert's Rules of Order
  • Provides meeting planning support to ensure successful planning and execution of meetings for the Board of Directors, and applicable committees
  • Organizes, maintains, tracks and safeguards all files related to Board governance, including, but not limited to, Board meeting and Committee minutes, litigation, resolutions, ordinances, agenda, historical board information, approved policies and activities, in accordance with bylaws, procedures and record retention policies. Ensures these materials are available internally and externally as appropriate.
  • Ensures the timely preparation, publishing and distribution of materials (e.g. requests, agenda, schedules, notices, resolutions, etc.) for the Board and Board

Committee meetings, utilizing Boardable. Coordinates with other Charter One Departments to provide approved content.

  • Attend and assist Boards in “Ready-to-Open” processes
  • Actively participates in coordinating the orientation of new Board Members, officers and Committee Chairs.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to collect and interpret feedback, execute on vision, and collaborate closely with marketing team members.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing competing priorities.
  • Problem solver with a positive can-do attitude.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google email; including Teams and Google Meet.
  • Collaborative team player and self-starter.
  • Professional level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent listening skills with the experience and temperament to foster a cooperative, caring, friendly, and inclusive relationship with board members
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work and respond to sensitive matters and/or situations with discretion, tact, and confidentiality

Preferred Skills/Abilities:

  • Short-hand skills for accurate note-taking
  • Knowledge of charter school laws and accountability standards

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, business, or related field preferred.
  • At least two years of public relations and business experience preferred.
