Are you an experienced counselor with a passion for making a difference? Charlotte Rescue Mission, a Christ-centered residential drug and alcohol recovery program, is seeking a dedicated Primary Counselor to join our team.

The Primary Counselor carries out the twelve core functions of substance abuse counseling for an assigned resident caseload. He or she must be a self-starter who is able to multi-task and to work as an effective member of an interdisciplinary clinical team. Good clinical and relational skills are a must, as well as the ability to work in a faith-based residential recovery environment. The Primary Counselor will attend clinical supervision on a weekly basis. Terms of clinical supervision will be determined as appropriate within the definitions of the North Carolina Addictions Specialist Professional Practice Board. The Primary Counselor is expected to adhere to the specific code of ethics accompanying his or her certification and/or licensure, as well as all agency policies.

Annual salary is commensurate with education, credentials and experience.

Some of the essential duties:

  • Responsible for counseling residents in both a group setting and individual one on one counseling sessions to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, and making changes.
  • Develop resident treatment plans based on research, clinical experience, and resident history.
  • Enter resident information in KIPU database in a timely manner.
  • Administer the ACE to all newly assigned resident to caseload.
  • Teach psychosocial classes in classroom setting.
  • Review and evaluate resident’s progress in relation to measurable goals described in treatment plan.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

The ideal candidate will have the following education and experience:

  • High School Diploma required. Associate's degree or higher is preferred.
  • Commensurate with educational level, professional certifications, accreditations, and licenses must be obtained within five years of the date of hire. Candidates are required to be registered with the North Carolina Addiction Specialist Professional Practice Board prior to beginning work. This includes CADC, LCAS, LCSW, LMFT, LCMHC, full credential, intern, or associate levels.
  • Non profit, SUD, MH, Behavioral health work experience.
  • Experience facilitating group, individual, and instructional classes.
  • At least 1 year's experience working in a residential, outpatient SUD/MH setting, private or public agency providing services to community members.

Skills:

  • Appropriate communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated instructional skill, particularly in the area of addiction and recovery.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Be able to work with a team.
  • Have strong adaptability, time management, interpersonal and critical thinking skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented, with strong organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills.

Ability:

  • Must be able to lift minimum of 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, sit, and stand for long periods of time.
  • Must have clear speaking, patient listening, and excellent writing skills.
  • Must maintain high confidentiality.
  • Must be able to defuse volatile situations and react appropriately in an emergency.
  • Ability to multi-task.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $42,000.00 - $52,000.00 per year
