Job Summary

Performs a variety of specialized imaging procedures (Interventional procedures, Angiography, and C.T.) under guidance of the licensed practitioner applying independent judgment and resourcefulness with minimal supervision. Provides excellent patient care and customer service to patients of all age groups utilizing equipment and supplies in an appropriate manner. Assists physicians performing procedures and provides emergency on-call coverage as needed. Has a flexible schedule to support emergent/critical add-on patients. Supports coworkers with education and mentorship as needed. Assists in other areas of medical imaging as directed.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates coordination of patient flow throughout the day. Functions as a liaison between physicians, nurses, ancillary staff, and assists with patient scheduling needs.• Assists in pre and post procedural care; providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation assuming responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs.• Provides patient education.• Select and operate all medical imaging equipment. Position patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort. Immobilize patient as required for appropriate examination.• Apply principles of radiation protection, when appropriate, to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others adhering to ALARA standards. Assists in meeting departmental radiation safety guidelines• Assist licensed practitioners during procedures, circulate and perform nursing duties, within scope, as needed. • Utilize appropriate sterile surgical and aseptic techniques, maintains appropriate knowledge of/observe universal precautions.• In agreement with state statues and/or where institutional policy permits, prepare, identify and/or administer contrast media and/or medications as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. • Prepare, operate, and care for equipment/other technical instruments used for administration of contrast agents, patient monitoring, and surgical intervention. • Perform angiography procedures at a technical level under the direction of a physician • Removal of sheaths/angiography procedural catheters, holding of pressure on puncture site & observes for bleeding/hematoma as it relates to intravascular or angiographic studies with appropriate education. • Properly and accurately prepare instruments and accessories for procedures. Utilize various equipment for specific procedures. Understand the products utilized in the department. • Maintain appropriate knowledge of vascular anatomy. Able to recognize anatomical structures via computer generated system on a CRT or those produced by an image intensifier and displayed on a TV monitor.• Understanding of moderate sedation and anesthesia practices.• Proficient use of applicable inventory management system, monitors/controls inventory of supplies replenishing as needed to ensure availability of items (ablation devices, catheters, guide wires, interventional sets, etc.). • Assist in maintaining patient records, respecting confidentiality, and established policy.• Evaluate images for technical quality, assuring proper identification is recorded, assists in evaluation of images performed by others, and provides feedback for improvement as needed. • Performs data management duties within the HIS/RIS systems, input appropriate exam charges, prepares images for digital archiving in PACS system, knowledge of image transfer processes to other facilities including hard copying discs.• Assume responsibility for assigned area and report equipment malfunctions. • Responsible for cleaning and turning over room after completion of procedure, transports patients as needed.• Provide practical instruction for new personnel, students and/or other health care professionals. Assists with development/implementation of competency-based orientation program and annual evaluation. • Independently identifies and resolves problems, assists/mentors others functioning as a role model.• Participate in the department's quality improvement plan. Responsible for quality control duties as assigned.• Participates in clinical research trials.• Maintain professional standards in conjunction with practice standards by societies such as ARRT/ASRT/SIRS. • Pursue appropriate continuing education.• Serves on committees and participates in development and implementation on projects/programs and accreditation as assigned.
