The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School, a pluralistic community Jewish day school, seeks qualified candidates to fill potential openings for the position of Early Childhood General Studies Teacher for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Salary strats at $46,000.00 annualy, based on academic degrees and years of full-time work experience in education.

All early childhood general studies teachers at CESJDS instruct students in the curricular areas of phonemic awareness, reading, writing, social studies, and mathematics. The CESJDS Junior K and Kindergarten grade levels are early childhood programs that balance academics and play in a developmentally appropriate setting. They focus on real-world experiences, structured fun, learning through play and song, and building community.

Candidates will possess the following skills in and dispositions toward education:

  • a passion for education

  • a “whole-child” approach to teaching and learning that focuses on growth in academic, social-emotional, physical, and spiritual domains

  • a progressive approach to education that includes expertise in differentiation of instruction for enriched, grade level, and supported students

  • strong proactive and positive classroom management skills

  • skills to create a joyful, interactive, and engaging learning environment

  • comfort with proactive parent collaboration

  • experience with teaching through digital platforms (Zoom, Google Meet, Schoology, SeeSaw, etc.) and integrating technology into typical classroom teaching practice

  • interest in partnering with colleagues within and across subject disciplines to plan and develop curriculum

  • a commitment to fostering an inclusive and communal learning environment

  • openness to professional reflection and feedback

  • demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ)

Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education (or 90-hour MSDE course for Junior K candidates) or a related field required with a Master’s degree preferred and a minimum of 1-3 years of successful, formal lead-teaching experience in a public or independent school.


Work Environment:

  • Faculty may be asked to perform their work responsibilities on campus and/or at home. In both settings, the teacher is required to maintain a professional environment.

  • While on campus, classes may be operating either in person or in an alternative setting. Teachers are expected to be present and accessible for the entire school day (contracted hours), regardless of the setting.
